Didnt believe this story at first but seems like london tax payers are being compelled to pay for a festival "celebrating" Castro's achievement

This is what Ken will expect us to celebrate

According to human rights organisations, Cuba is one of two countries in the Americas (the other being Haiti) where political freedom is completely curtailed. The British Government singles out Cuba as one of only two Latin American states which is of "major human rights concern".

There are 33 countries in the Americas. The bi-partisan US foundation, Freedom House, classifies 22 of them as "free", nine as "partly free", and two, Cuba and Haiti, as "not free.

Political parties, other than the Communist Party, are prohibited in Cuba, as are free trade unions. Freedom of expression is banned and, according to Amnesty International, there are 70 prisoners of conscience.

There is no press freedom and Cuban citizens are not allowed to travel freely - they are also affected by a US economic blockade.

Severe racism against Cuba's black minority is reported by human rights monitors

Frankly its riduclous that taxpayers money should be used to "celebrate" ANY leader regardless of political make up...but least of all this one

you wouldnt have if you were jewish

(which i am not...)

Only political leader i can think of, outside the BNP, who has made clear comments of that nature and not even attempted to retract them

Only "political leader" i can think of who has actively promoted those who strongly hold such opinions

Maybe, but i think even his best supporters would find it hard to deny he has "opinions" about jews

But anyway, the main point is "the festival"

Even if i was rabid left, i would have doubts about the validity of this...

'There were a lot of attacks from some London Assembly members and the press about visiting Cuba, but frankly this is just double standards. There is no reason why Cuba should be singled out for controversy except for people coming at international issues from a very right wing perspective.

Quote from Ken

Which must make Amnesty international and the EU ..."very right wing"

and also those that believe in such "very right wing" concepts such as freedom to travel, the vote, freedom of the press...etc
