Flipping hell's strewth :angy:

Been having problems with PC for the last week & I am now ready to lob it out the window :rant:

So my question Laptop or PC? we wandered into Staples yesterday for something & I hadn't thought about replacing the PC with a laptop before but I must admit its rather appealing not having the huge amount of kit to squeeze into the living room, we only have a small living room & a large desk could be done away with in theory :)

What I use my PC for, Internet, paperwork stuff, fiddling with photo's from my camera & thats about it, not needed for games/films etc

Any insights greatly appreciated shrug::

Quite like the look of this one! selling for £399 at the moment

I have a Compaq desktop now. Previously had a nice laptop only used for e-mails and Internet (and mostly this forum), so it was hardly overworked. I was told that they were great space savers, but because all of the components were squinched into one tiny piece of equipment, the chances were that they'd go wrong more often and die within five years. The laptop lived exactly five years before dying of a Fatal Error, having played up, frequently locked, etc., for several months before that. I went from Dialup to Broadband, and while BB was clearly much quicker than Dialup, if you have a Desktop you can get a really fast processor if you want one.

Get a laptop, and then look in to getting a wireless setup for your broadband if you don't already have one.

Helen, I would think you would find a laptop a lot slower than a desktop.

Not for what she wants to use it for.

Well I am now posting from my new laptop!

Bought this one,

have a bit of an odd thing going on though :what: I have to use the old telephone cable (tel to socket) as the one that came with it & the longer one we bought from Argos does not work :suspect: I know its not the laptop as the phone won't work on them either! surely I can't of bought two duff cables?

I am still on dial up but intend changing to BB in the near future

Did they not have any laptops on display, Helen? I ask because I was going to go for a Toshiba for £389 but went into the store and got a Phillips for £400 down from £629.

From what I remember there was a wine moment, at least one of them caught fire and at least one had the power connection damaged. I think this is laptop 5 in 4 years

PC world had loads on display, which is more than I can say for the rest, comet/currys/staples were as poor as hell,

I haven't been into a PCW for a long time 2/3 years & the biggest change I could see was the amount of laptops far outweighed desktop PC's, a sign of things to come perhaps!

They had the LT that I originally posted about but the one I ended up buying really caught my eye & had loads more for an extra £100.

Just need to get my head around Vista :rant:
