Las Vegas

Went with Mrs Grass many moons ago (pre-snappers).

We only had a couple of nights there - which wasn't really enough - as it was a top-blast. I think the place has changed immeasurably since, but I expect that it's still part-harty-central. Certainly, erstwhile forum-baiter, and foul-mouthed good-egg - Golden Cygnet - swears by the place, and is hooked-up for his next visit in March. The only real piece of advice he ever gave me about Vegas was not to go in July or August - "You'll sweat yer hole off".

Not sure how long I could stick it nowadays. About a week tops for an old fogey like me, I reckon. I was left very much with the impression that it's a young/single-man's town (if you're prepared to overlook the zillions of pensioners who will undoubtedly be ahead of you in the queue for the all-you-can-eat buffet, that is).

Meant to be going at some point around a year from now for a mass 50th . Personally, not bothered in the slightest about going.

Should add, i know a few who have been and its left them cold...

i think chicago most underrated us city...phili maybe too

San Francisco was dissapointing for me

the city I enjoyed more in US is Seattle

Miami is quite good too

Los Angeles another one to avoid

my favorite place in the states is Jackson Hole in Wyoming, have been twice but looking forward to be many more times in coming years

my first visit was in 2008 , a friend of mine advise me to visit the place, I was there with my girlfriend when we did a travell form Denver to seattle by car.
We stayed there 3 days

first of all is a place with personality, not a big city but some good restaurants,
you can do there skiing and is a beatifull place to walk in summer

it is just on the south of my favorite park in the States
Grand Teton is the place the Rockefellers used to go in summer to have holidays
it is a beatifull place with beatifull views and with plenty of animals like deers, bears, elks......

it is close to YEllowstone that is the most famous park in the world and is also a place to visit

I went there again for my honeymoon with my mexican wife and it were 10 days not to forget

if you are in the zone dont doubt to visit these places

Went to Vegas as a detour when taking family on holiday, kicking off in New York, flying to San Fran, hiring a car for trip round California. I mention the trip because all of us agreed it would have been better to spend longer in New York than to have gone to Vegas.
Highlights were some top class shows, amazingly creative hotel design, superb restaurants but overall slightly tacky. To get to your room in any hotel you have to pass thousands of slots and even the kids could spot the many losers.

Would go there for a weekend big boxing match but that's all.

I liked the deep south. Although the poverty is apparent more than you would like and some parts are a bit bible belt its definitely a world apart and humour and general vibe of the people and the states is quite different to the rest of the us.

And Nawleans (admitedly before the floods) is quite unlike anywhere in the world. its barmy but quite strangely beautiful too. And bloody humid....not that i mind that

And te southern accent on the women...whoa

I'd say a weekend is too short and a week is too long. Its great fun but not for snobs or misers! Bring lots of hard cash and a big appetite (seriously, the buffets...) and you'll be looked after. It was late July/early August when I was there and whilst it was scorching the humidity is low so its much more bearable than some other places (and you're never more than 10 paces from somewhere with air-con anyway). Fantastic to walk out of your hotel at 10pm into that heat with the place just getting started for the night.

I'd say so. We did 7 nights and were very eager to get on with the next stage of the holiday (San Francisco) by the end. We'd have preferred the extra two nights in SF to be honest.
