Is it just me or is anyone else struggling to come to terms with the prize money being offered at Lingfield on Friday? I know I'm biased towards jump racing but isn't there something wrong when only five races at Cheltenham carry a greater value than the lowest value of any race on Friday's seven race card?

Surely that's sn issue with Cheltenhan prize money? I'm all for this meeting. It's a high standard of racing and a meeting that will only get better ever year. There will always be more money in flat racing than hedge jumping.

More's the pity they didn't do it 20 years ago. AW racing might then be regarded as much more than the 'bookie fodder' that's the common conception now.

Yes, well said Slim.

I'm not big of flat racing, especially AW but living not far from Lingfield we went last year and had a great day. To the point that we're going again on Friday and I've been looking at the cards for a while.

The potential downside to the prize money - as pointed out so well in today's RP - is that with the new fast track qualifier process, the Godolphin horses and the like do not necessarily have to do anything more than turn up and win one AW listed race all year and they automatically receive entry, potentially at the expense of a horse who has been the bread and butter of the the code all year round.

But I suppose to counter that is the fact that it could result in a general improvement of the overall standard throughout the year.

In the past I have been a fairly big critic of AW racing but let's not forget there is just as much dross/bookies benefits day in, day out over jumps so this initiative should be applauded IMO and if not, then certainly enjoyed - as should anything that helps improve the quality and outside interest of the sport.

P.S. Don't Be in the filles' and mares' for "Sir" Prescott

Cracking card, but difficult to see past the shorties in most races.
Harry Hurricane (4.15) might be an exception, though. Needs held up till the last strides, and has twice been thwarted by Primrose Valley when hitting the front earlier. Has the man for the job on board today, and with a strong pace highly likely, looks rock solid ew at the current 13/2.

1.40 Fresles
2.10 Alben Star
2.40 Tempus Temporis
3.10 Big Baz

had a yankee on those to pass the afternoon on..fancy Big Baz today.. so have had a single/place on that as well

FFS, Ch4 running adverts whilst the 14:40 has already started. Missed the start and the first 3 furlongs.

Then going to another advert merely 6 minutes later!!

Heard the explanation about malfunctioning equipment meaning the start was missed, but if they didn't go to adverts 2 minutes before the race off, we wouldn't miss it would we.

Simple!! What muppet decided that!!!!

I stopped watching C4 coverage a long time ago. ATR coverage is quite good today as they only have one meeting to focus on and a decent presenter/pundit lineup.

Tryster has probably put up the best performance of any horse on the AW since it started.

Complicit when gifted an easy pace can run the last 2f at Lingfield faster than any horse at that level is capable of..to give it a start and pass it is near on impossible.

immense performer is Tryster..on this surface must be a G2/G1 level to do that

I've backed him tonight. His performance the last day was visually stunning.

on that performance i got a marked up sectional speed figure of 115..which to me leaves him a little short tonight..clearly still improving ..but its pure guesswork imo if he is capable of 120+ yet...i'd back him tonight at 5/1..but is currently 3/1 on betfair..its too short seeing as his 3 main rivals are all capable of 115 or higher

I cant back it myself to many questions to answer against proven turf performers. Hope it runs well but may have to back Arab spring myself

Tryster gives every indication that he'll be at least as effective on turf (nobody knows how good that might be, but he's certainly highly progressive).
His 2 main rivals have yet to prove they're anywhere near his class over 10f.

one key to him will be the going..they over watered last time here..the times of the earlier races will be interesting.

there is no evidence of what he will do on the turf to be fair..its just guesswork..but he will need to be as good as the AW to compete here thats for sure. if anyone wants to remove a little guesswork,,his sire has a better strike rate on the AW than turf..so its really 50/50..he either is or isn't as good

I'm hoping he is..something to look forward to is how i look at it..don't care about winning any money tonight..not at the price anyway....a very interesting horse to watch..hopefully he can show his best
