Wasnt overwhelmed by it, was classic in parts [and the new Tory MP was great] but I think that they've taken some sketches as far as they can go really, particularly the Stars In Their Eyes bit with the recovering patient - even the Prime Minister bit was taken too far this time in the search for a cheap laugh.
I just hope moving to BBC1 and a more mainstream slot doesn't make it lose its edge a bit
I watched it again, thinking that I may have watched a poor episode last time. I still didn't find it anywhere near as funny as I thought I would and I suspect I never will. 2/10.
I agree with Bobbyjo regarding having taken some of the sketches as far as they can. I loved the lady weeing in the supermarket! I have to admit, with it moving to BBC1 - it feels more mainstream now which I don't know if I like. It still made me laugh - and I taped it so I can watch it again later. The only gay in the village - his costume brought tears to my eyes.
This always seems to happen when a "cult" show makes the switch, but I can never quite figure out if its because the makers are suddenly trying to write for what they perceive as a less sophisticated audience, or if the audience themselves are seeing the show in a different light and allowing that to colour their opinion. What exactly is it that makes it feel more mainstream? Are the jokes more obvious or something?
Gareth, I am not sure. I think it is the element of when these programmes are on BBC2 they seem more of a cult. I don't think there was much dumbing down on last nights programme... it just "felt" different watching it on BBC1.
I just thought the bit with the Prime Minister doing the dusting for Sebastian was something that would never have happened before. It was if they were going out of their way to explain the joke to new viewers of the show who may not have watched it before - there was a bit of that at times last night, I think maybe that's what happens when a show switches sides. It needs to over emphasise the subtleties in the regular sketches to make them appealing to new viewers
I am going to see Little Britain live @ Newcastle City Hall on Tuesday night. Have had the tickets for around 14 months. Not sure what to expect and I guess my expectations are not that high.
Come on, Kathy, 'fess up: you're really a closet plastic fetishist, aren't you? I thought that lime 'n' black number (and the adoooorable little hat) was divine, too, and - lucky me - in my size!
