In a bid to promote its position as European Capital of Culture 2008, Liverpool sent some of its most upstanding residents along the M62 on Saturday to demostrate their artisitc and cultural skills at the home of their rival football team Manchester United.

As guests of the stadium for the FA Cup semi-final versus Chelsea, the residents of Liverpool demonstrated both their creative flair and awareness of topical issues to ensure that a lasting memory of what they offer to this country was visible to all.

I think you've got the last one wrong, betsy - that's Tracy Emin's "My Lavatory" currently on view at Bankside.

As a life long Liverpool supporter, I would like to make a full and sincere apology to all Man Utd fans on this forum.

Thank you.

There has been debate on this forum about the thuggery and abusive nature of football fans, but the above is far in excess of that and is something that I think no-one regardless of their club allegiances should accept.

Taunting and provoking is part of the game - vandalism glorifying death is not. My fear is that every club has a small minority of idiots, including Manchester United, and this sort of thing will only fuel their actions.

What is so sad about the Munich references is that Liverpool suffered their own horrendous tradegy at Hillsborough. I am sure that they would not want ill spoken of those victims, but this sort of behaviour, sadly, only increases the likelihood of some pointless "revenge" attack.

This seem to be getting worse (coming on the back of the ambulance attack at Anfield) and I would like to see both clubs - and other clubs - working with the police to nip this in the bud.

My Ex was from Liverpool and it is a real pity that a few brainless idiots can and would do this. I spent many wonderful weekends in Liverpool and found it one of the nicest and friendliest Towns in the country.

I would hasten to add that the situation was not helped by the hoisting of banners about Hillsborough and Michael Shields on bridges above the East Lancs Road on the way into Manchester (from what I have read elsewhere)

It doesn't excuse it but this is far from violence for the sake of it.

Glad you enjoyed Liverpool Starsandstripes, it's a great city and really does get an unfair press. Good leisure city and really good for a night out too :)

My daughter spent 3 years studying at Liverpool John Moore's University, she loved every minute of living in Liverpool.

I've visited the city on a number of occassions and would have no problem going there again. Friendly welcome and good craic.

It would be wrong to tar Liverpudlians because of the behaviour of some of thug element.

Glad to hear it Starsandstripes, great racing their. The thursday of the National is probably my favourite day - good racing, easy access to the beer tent and love the new parade ring. Not half as busy as the friday and saturday.

Great bands in the pavillion too if you're there for a good day and night out :)

Personally, I don't mind being called a manc tw@.

If I'm honest, I can't say that I'm really offended by the pictures. All it is is petulent graffiti written on the streets of Liverpool by bored/brain dead scrotes. It happens. Always has done and always will do. To be frank, there are a million and one things more worrying in the world to get worked up over.
