Long Run

To be ridden by Ruby Walsh on Sunday in France in the Grande Steeple-Chase de Paris. As part of the 'Quinte' races in France, amateur riders not permitted. Racing Post story.

Don't you just love the Waley-Cohens throwing their toys out of the pram and having them totally ignored by the French maid.

The rule is absurd, as many things in France are.
How can a Gold cup winning jockey is not allowed to ride his own horse in a race in France?

Expect one or two of these to improve past Long Run who's clearly on the decline unless Ruby can work some magic.

Agreed it's an absurd rule

A bit of a no win situation for SWC - if he wins or goes really close there will be the calls of all he needed was a proper jockey - if he runs badly it confirms the horse's decline.

Anyone who believes that Sam is that bad and all Long Run needs is a better jockey needs a lobotomy.

If he does win tomorrow good and well but he will still be no threat to the younger and more talented chasers in the UK even if Bronco Lane were to take the mount

Rhialco definitely worth another go in the GSDP today, with minor stamina concerns offset by his ongoing rich vein of form. I'm very sweet on Diakali in the Barka.

Trainer knows what he's doing with Shannon Rock and would be very surprised if he was even 80% fit for his previous runs this Spring - well worth taking the 6/1 E/W in the big one IMHO.

Long Run is on the downgrade sadly, backers are relying on a return to Auteuil sparking some life into him.

In the big race for 4yo's Red Name is a lovely looking son of Nickname - surprised he was beaten last time out but he's better than that and looks value E/W at 25/1 against the favourite.

racebets were a standout 7/2 on Diakali this morning. complete rick when compared to other books/betfair. was no hesitation in getting involved.

Superb stuff from Thousand Stars and good to see Storm Of Saintly prove that last years 5yo's were a top bunch in the big event.

Long Run would have been a short price to turn up in a p2p or Hunter Chase next season but his Punchestown run has scuppered that (assuming the qualification criteria are the same as this season).

You have to love Thousand Stars. He has never got the credit he deserves.

Historical perspective will ultimately underpin the fact that top-class, game, genuine and consistent horses like TS and Solwhit are exactly that - and not the softies that so many claim.

It remains an absolute mystery to me why they're viewed in such a negative light - they're everything you'd want in an NH horse.

Why's that Martin?

He'll have been placed in a G1 or G2 place since December 2013 (current rules state you can't point or HC in the UK if you've placed in such a race since December 2012).

Thousand Stars came out of a Claimer in France, claimed by French agent Guy Petit when the horse was 4th at Saint Cloud, at a price of €29,000, what a pick.

Thousand stars, top horse

Mullins did a great Job trasforming him and making him more versaltile
But wonder how many race he has run without a chance because was not fully fit or was actinio as a pacemaker of hurricane fly.
