Long term travel

I went on a six months holiday, travelling from Perth to St. Petersburg via Bali, Jakarta, Philippines, Beijing, rural China, Mongolia, Siberia and Moscow.

If you (or anyone) is interested in any of those places, or tips in managing money, I am happy to help.

I once got a train from Reading to Derby which took about 9 hours. It was Oaks day to top it off.

Seriously, I did a whistlestop interrail round Europe last year and it really made me want to do it properly over a much longer time.

I took six months out in Africa and Australia a couple of years ago. Definitely recomend doing something like that. I'd do it again tomorrow if I didn't have the mortgage to worry about.

Cheers Bar. It's not something I'll be doing this year (moved to Europe a few months back and will give this some time) but is always on my mind for 2010.

Was yours a costly trip?

Did you spend much time in Malaysia (borneo specifically)?

My travelling has been restricted to a summer in Chicago and interrailing for a month around Eastern Europe(which was amazing).

A buddy of mine is back in Dublin after taking 6 months off and has come back with a near-finished book, a sun tan and a boatload of stories.

It's hard to decided whether travel is a means of escaping a (work)life you dislike, a desire to see new places or both.
