Im going this Saturday with the family, Seen it on the t.v, and it looks brilliant, so has everyone had the pleasure or displeasure of visiting and if so whats it like and is it good for adults & kids alike.?

Dreading the long drive mind from Blackpool. :(

I always enjoyed it. The animal park itself is good - Elephants, Rhino, Lions, Wolves, Giraffe, the dreaded Monkeys etc.
The end bit includes the House 'Not that impressive and not really for dragging kids around' and quite a lot for kids. the Maze is good - a huge Yew maze that really is tricky and you can easily get lost. I think it was once the largest in the world or, at least, the UK? Then there is a large Kids playpark thing if I remember rightly. Plus, boat trips on the lake with the Sea Lions and Hippos and Gorilla Island, a model railway and other bits and bobs.
I've never been disappointed.

Have a nice time.

The kids will love the boat trips on the lake and being able to feed the sea lions as they jump out of the water beside the boat. In the middle of the lake is a small island which is home to a pair of gorillas who have their own Sky TV. Leave well alone if they are watching Racing UK. Also hippos in the mud if you look closely on the right hand side as you go out.

Also a place where you can go in and watch the bats Fascinating as long as you don't mind them whizzing past your earholes.

Longleat

PS if you get fed up, Chepstow races are on.

Used to go loads as a child and loved it especialy the boat trips. There used to be a wonderful dolls house which I was entranced by as a little girl - no idea if that is still there though.

Did you just look that up, Merlin?

And if so, why?
BAR...Yes being that I spent years driving around the country I still like to reminisce of all those miles I did in my ARTIC but as regards the actual mileage! I now have a software programme that will now tell you how far and how to get there.

That was not obviously available so you had to remember your way around the country... and yes I still am a lover of geography in general.. and being that the PRO stated it was a long way to go I thought I would tell him how far it was............... :)

Hope this answers your question?????????

Yes its a good old drive Merlin, and thanks as your've just reminded me i need to print off directions via RAC route planner. ;)

I usually just refer to the scale of miles printed inside my AA Touring Atlas... if I'm not too sure where I am, I ask a friendly native. Much nicer than having some robot intoning 'turn left at the next junction... turn right at the next crossroads'... what next? "Mind the Vauxhall Astra approaching rapidly from the right?" All these newfangled gizmos take away so much of the interest in actually driving to a place. Even cigarette lighters - nowhere near the fun of having your passengers light up with the window open, and seeing the lit match-head fly into their laps.

You'd best start giving PDJ some UK geography lessons then.....:P

I know where everything North of Watford is, thank you. Everywhere South of that is just "down South." My Geography is fine.

Well we all really enjoyed it, although it was bitterly cold and our boat broke down just after the guide said "we never have problems with it", famous last words or wot  and never got to see the gorillas, but did see the sea lions and hippos.
The bat cave thing was excellent, and probs my fav thing on the day tbh as i found it fascinating having bats fly over my head and feeling the air from there wings.
The house was very very impressive too, check them ceilings out, beautiful and we even got to see Lord Bath himself as he walked past us and said "Hello".

All in all though a great day, albeit a very very long drive from Poulton and next time i might borrow my parents Caravan and spent a weekend down there as Bath looks a great City to visit.

Thanks all for posting.

Let me know if you plan to caravan in Bath as I used to live there & my parents still do, we caravan there a fair bit & there are some NOT very nice sites!
