Lydia Hislop's Road To Cheltenham 2018/2019

I generally like the content of these updates, but also find Hislop's tendency towards parenthesis very, very annoying.

Firstly. as the instigator of the original thread and secondly because as a mod I have received complaints about the posts as well as one report, I have permanently removed the derogatory remarks concerning Lydia. I have also removed a couple of posts expressing concern regarding the offending posts as obviously they wouldn't make sense now the offending posts have gone.

Perhaps you could give us some guidelines regarding what we can and cannot say.I am seriously annoyed that after nearly 20 years here that I can't make a mildly offensive remark without it being deleted.

The most offensive thing on this thread is the use of the word parenthesis.

Are you an admirer of the workings of Joseph Stalin?

"Monalee heads to the Irish Gold Cup, with de Bromhead reputedly needing to persuade his owners that the Ryanair is the most suitable Festival target,"

**** me, what is it with this stable and going for the wrong race. If he ends up in the GC his owners need tarring.

he will run over 3miles at Leop

I remember this with Sizing john a few years back - i had him at 33's for the Ryanair and eventually had to settle for 8's or 12 in the GC

With Monalee his form is well advertised over 3m at this stage - I reckon he could be similar enough to Florida Pearl in that he can just about get 3m+ but it's not his optimum

For those with Ryanair dockets (me) better hope he doesn't make a valiant running at leop in 2 weeks

Yeah, the jockey had him on a very tight rein at Leop. A faster pace and shorter will be optimal. With Sizing John we simply didn't know whether or not he'd stay the GC trip - in contrast with Monalee we have firm evidence he doesn't. He beat The Storyteller by further in the Flogas than he did in the Savills, a lot further. This can only be put down to the 3 miles stretching him.

Lydia also pointed out the seeming contradiction with Lalor's trainer not wanting to run the horse at Doncaster in prep for the Arkle if the ground is too quick - whereas the excuse for his defeat to Dynamite Dollars at Sandown at Xmas was because of the testing ground. I have no issue with this - she simply doesn't want to risk jarring the horse this close to the Festival.
