Matt O'Connor

That's very good news indeed. However, I'm surprised that following coma and lengthy hospitalization, the Irish racing authority's doctors haven't banned him from resuming race-riding for at least a year!

What was heartening to see, too, was a picture of JP McNamara walking unaided alongside Richard Dunwoody during his Thousand Miles walk for charity. He looked great, and these lads certainly have a tremendous mindset to get past their injuries.

Dr Turner would have banned him for life , even before reading the specialist reports .

O'Connor set for return
Thu, 8th Oct, 2009

Matt O'Connor, out of action since suffering head injuries in March, has been cleared to return to race riding.

O'Connor spent several weeks in intensive care after a heavy fall from Walkin Aisy at Thurles.

His long road to recovery is near an end as the conditional bids to get his career back on track.

In other injury news Niall Madden, who underwent surgery for broken bones in his arm, is set to return to action at Punchestown next Wednesday.

Thanks for that super news, FWW. Great to read of a happy outcome for both lads and their families.

Thinking of Irish jockeys, going to show my higgernorance here: is there an Irish equivalent to our Injured Jockeys' Fund, which helps injured UK/NI jockeys and their families when they can't earn their fees?

That's great news:cool::cool:Am sure it's been a long hard road for Matt O Connor and his family in particular.

Super news and I was chatting to him today. You have never heard a lad so pleased with himself and while he will take it handy for the next while, he is mad to get going. We would love to have him back on Kimberlite King but it will be up to Matt and Colm to decide what he rides going forward.

All the best to Matty on his first ride back tomorrow Alladins Cave for Colm Murphy in the Handicap Hurdle at 4 20.

Not forgetting Slippers Madden, who has four rides tomorrow- his first rides since Kilbeggan in early August

It's going to be a nervous day. I was chatting to him yest and he says everything is 100% after riding out from Friday and it's just a case of getting his fitness right as his weight crept up to 11st while he was off. you wouldn't know it as he's a thin lad but he is tall. Great to have him back and he will be careful with his first bunch of rides to ease him back in. Clear rounds and front end finishes is what he needs now.

The very best of luck to both lads, good to have them back in action:cool:
