Mexico

Loads of my family have...Cancun...obviously !

Loved it in the resorts every time

Wouldn't leave the resorts though if you want to keep your head:ninja:

Not been myself but my sister and her fiancee have been - oh and they went back, and want to go back again so I think they liked it :)

Took the family to Cancun a couple of times at the end of US holidays. Great resort, superb beaches, coral reefs close by and some ancient sites worth seeing on trips.

As usual hired car to try and see wider country. Felt very uncomfortable(vulnerable) on several occasions and and also received advice not to get out of the car when about to do so. Stayed on the reservation from then on. That said might have ignored advice had I been younger and not accompanied by young family as it looked interesting.

I went a fair few times when I lived in Los Angeles but it was just over the border to Tijuana and a bit further down. Very poor areas and extreme poverty. But I went with a local and saw parts tourists never get to see and it was incredible.

That said the richer areas of Mexico are supposed to be amazing. Real wealth divide in the country. Do stay on the beaten track though - the drug problem over there is very real and there are countless shootings!

I thought I had nothing to add to this, but just remembered that in 1986 I collected the Pannini Mexico '86 stickers. Second thoughts I should probably stuck with my first thought..

Who has been to South America so?

Went to Argentina last year - best place I've ever been. Buenos Aires is fantastic. Went to Mendoza (wine tasting) and then stayed on an 'estancia' to learn polo. Food amazing, esp. the beef, wine lovely, people friendly, and felt safe the whole time.

All in all, thoroughly recommended.

Relatively cheap, but not Eastern Europe cheap. Meal for two (a good one) with wine around £50, night's mid range accommodation around £60-80. Of course you can spend much less or more if you wish. You should go if you're in a position to, it's well worth it. Managed to get flights for £650 too, fairly cheap given the distance.
