I'm a member of the Lost Dogs online forum/service http://www.doglost.co.uk/default.asp

One family lost their rare Alaskan Klee Kai in Huyton on April 14th; he went missing from the poster's grandmother's house while they were at the Grand National. You can read the saga so far at

It seems he may have been sighted in Southport this last week.
Come on fellow racegoers, let's see if we can help find him

This is fantastic site for anyone who cares about dogs, whereby people all over the country do sterling work to help reuinite people with their pets. The main method is by printing off the poster provided for each dog and blitzing the area where the dog went missing; and it's often very effective. The volunteers also arrange media coverage: for the dog lost in Huyton see the piece in the Liverpool Echo:

Please do register with the site and try to help in your own area; if you do, you will be emailed details of any dogs missing in nearlby areas [by postcode]; and anyone who who lives in or has contacts in Merseyside please send them this message. Anyone who has ever lost a dog or cat knows what a traumatic experience it is. My favourite cat went missing three months after I moved to France, and was never seen again. I still grieve.

Well I don't know about anyone else but if I see a dog wandering the streets I don't ignore it anyway. I have taken in several such dogs whilst trying to contact their owners - as a teenager I received a mouthful for taking someone's dog to the local police station after it wandered, lost, into my garden. I didn't recognise it and it had no collar on it - what else did they expect me to do with it??

Some people of course irresponsibly let their dogs wander all day while they are at work...

Anyway, if you read many of the threads on lostdog it becomes clear there is a real epidemic of dognapping going on - so GET YOUR DOG CHIPPED - and pressure your vet to check any dog which comes new to the practice by scanning it

Have been a reg helper for a long time, scary amount of dogs being killed in ponds & swimming pools recently cry railway lines aren't far behind!

Very good sites and cause. It gets worse though. I read an article that told how thieves who are truly intent on stealing expensive dogs own the instrument to detect the chip and simply cut it out of the dogs neck or shoulder so that once healed the dog cannot be identified. Owch.

I guess dogs are now like children, you cannot let them out of your sight. And this probably applies to any cute dog, not just the valuable ones.

A friend has a huge black dog that looks exactly like a wolf and despite licking those he knows to death, he has a nervous growl for strangers - so far no one has tried to steal him! :brows:
