We never used them when we lived in Africa, but you could consider using a mozzie net over the bed, Shadz. Just don't get up in the dark and forget it's there! They're supposed to hate the smell of citron, so maybe spritzing the bedroom/flat with an orange-smelling air spray might help? The whining is really annoying, though, and then the sudden stop, when you figure your arm is being used as a snack bar!
