Anne Bancroft has died at the age of 73. Winner of an Academy Award for "The Miracle Worker" and nominated on four other occasions, a talented stage actress and a director she is best remembered as every young man's older woman fantasy in the role of the original desperate housewife Mrs Robinson who seduces the student Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) in "the Graduate".

Being married to Mel Brooks for forty-one years must have ensured that her life was fun.

Here's to you Mrs Robinson....

Terrible news. You couldn't fail to have a soft spot for Anne Bancroft. My mind is failing me here, I can't remember if it was her or Mel who was on Jonathon Ross not so long back, they regailed the tale of how when they first met, Mel swept her off her feet by effectively stalking her until she agreed to go out for dinner with him.
She will be sadly missed.

Ignited my passion for sophisticated and turbulent older women, which lasted until recently when I realised the older women were now about 73.

Seriously beautiful, but judging by her appearence on Wogan, a bit of a mare.

From what we hear about Colin Farrell, the much, much older woman doesn't seem to be a bar to trying, anyway...

Thank you, dearest. I am keeping hope's ember glowing in my heart.... that, or it's heartburn playing up again. Where's me Rennies?

Anne Bancroft and Cyd Charisse were my two older women 'fancies', but for different reasons. I would have liked to dance with with the latter.

Further to my earlier series "confessions of a masturbator" I must confess to having partook of the same to Katherine Ross in this film.

I think it was that scene in Dustin Hoffman's room (near her college) when she was crying. I wanted to take her in my arms, cuddle her, kiss her forehead and just generally rub up against her.

The Graduate was never quite the same for me upon discovering that Bancroft was 35 and Hoffman 29 when it was made.
