The humble Yorkshire pudding has been named the nation's favourite regional food.

It beat the Cornish pasty and the Melton Mowbray pork pie to come first in its category at the Good Housekeeping food awards.

Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce was named the favourite store cupboard ingredient.

All entries were nominated by Good Housekeeping magazine readers.

Chocolate: So sexy... Winners were picked by a judging panel which included M&S chief executive Stuart Rose, restaurateur Prue Leith and Fergus Henderson of London's St John restaurant.

Chocolate was named the sexiest food, with the Green & Black's brand voted the top indulgent food.

It was the first time the favourite regional food category had been included in the annual awards.

Good Housekeeping's cookery editor Emma Marsden said the Yorkshire pudding was a regional food with a nationwide appeal.

"It is something people have grown up with. They are a favourite Sunday lunch accompaniment to roast beef," she said.

"That's why people love them - and because they're so easy to make."

Green & Black's is an upmarket (ie. expensive) brand that you should find in the big supermarkets. Not many people are aware that it is now owned by Cadburys.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the Green & Black's brand and where would you buy it????? :suspect:
It's organic chocolate. I've seen it in most supermarkets in a variety of flavours. They do a fab dark 70% chocolate. Very bitter but yum nonetheless.

I wouldn't say it was expensive, around £1.75 for a big bar of it. You get what you pay for, it really is good quality.

When I went on my bread-making course last September, a marketing bod from Green & Black was also on the course. He was a lovely chubby chap - very cheerful - a really good advertisment for his product!!

Anyone who likes bitter dark chocolate should try Amnesty International's 85% one. I like their hazelnut one most, but I'm not mad on chocolate. Worth a try if you have a local shop nearby.

Speaking of chocolate, has anyone tried the new(ish) Bendicks non-minty chocolate range and if so, is it any good?

Frozen Yorkshire puds are perfectly accceptable for lazy people who can't be arsed washing the mixing bowl (or purchasing a suitable oven tray).

Can you microwave them? I only do radiated foods, other than salads, of course!

Bendicks - no, haven't seen/tried them. If you get a chance to try Ritter Sport chocolate bars, I can recommend them almightily. The cappuccino is divine, and the dark choc with squishy mint centres is stunning. Mm-mmm... Troodles! Bleucch! Yorkshire puds with ice cream? That is the most bizarre food combo I've heard of since garlic ripple cornettos!
