I've been to 11 of them I reckon, and the Taj Mahal and Macchu are significantly more inspiring than any of the others. There's a few in there which you'd have to categorise as darn right dissappointing, especially as seemingly better candidates exist in some of the same countries. I suppose it depends on whether you're looking for aesthetics, architectural/ engineering design, or a wider sense of dynamic impact and atmosphere/ experience.
I wouldn't even regard the Statue of Liberty as being the best in Manhattan yet alone the US. Uxmal is probably more dramatic than Chechen Itza. The precise name excapes me, (but its something like the Cathedral of the spilt blood or something) in Leningrad which I thought was better than St Basils, (which is actually really quite small). The Sagrada Famillia (I'm sure I've spelt that wrong) would be my Spanish nomination. Not sure about Blackpool Tower!!! I think Sacre Coeur is probably the more worthy. Petra borrows too much from a naturally stunning approach to be considered a man made wonder I'd have thought. It's a bit like citing the cafe on the top of Table Mountain then!!! Mind you I'd probably put the Lloyds building ahead of Stonehenge
So 21 nominations and yet only 7 can qualify. Now I don't know the format of this programme, but i'm prepared to guess that it involves assigning a celebrity holiday maker (sorry advocate) a chance to fly out there and do a 10-15 minute piece, the likes of which we must have enough archive material to make this exercise unnecessary given what the likes of Cliff Mitchell-Moore, Frank Bough and Anne Cregg et al must have accquired over the years. Somehow I suspect that it's going to involve a premium rate phone in poll too, in order to pay for the costs  cry . I'd like to nominate Nicky Campbell to go and do a piece on the Great Central Citadel Helmand Province
The concept of the New Seven Wonders has been around for a few years now - it's taken that long to get the original longlist down to the 21 they have now. There was an international voting system in place for a long time to determine the shortlist.
As a piece of neo gothic, the Chrysler Builing is better. Captures some of the 30's optimism and ultimate collapse in over decadence. Damn sight more challening than Empire State, which in turn, I'll accept is better than SoL
the list is daft because its so obviously picked geographically. That could be the only reason for the Sydney opera houseand perhaps the german castle
An obvious omission for me would be Venice. Just Venice pure and simple.
warbler.. i could never have the rather bizarre Sacre Coer above the true wonder of the eiffel tower. I think the chrsyler building is beautiful but its doesnt grab you in the same way as the pivotal Empire state building. However i think the Rockefeller centre is the most outstanding of the lot. A building you really come to admire more and more
In many ways though, the true "wonder" on the list is Stonehenge.
