If it goes to 1/10 to be Christmas No1 I might think about laying it at Betfair. I heard it this evening - even turned the volume in the car right up to get a 'proper' listen - and was singularly unimpressed.
I found it very depressing. I know its about the whole African crisis but the original had an upbeat feel to it, this one hasn't got much to it at all.
I agree with the sentiment but this lot have'nt done this spontaneously if the reports are to be believed . There's a supposed ruck between Bono and Justin Hawkins in which lawyers were involved as to who sings the line "well tonight thank God it's them instead of you " Bono's camp have been quiet while the Darkness frontman has stirred the pot on camera saying that his version will possibly be rejected subject to Bono making a second recording of the line . None of the papers have picked up on this but I think if their objective is supposed to be a selfless cause they've already betrayed the notion . I was a kid when Live Aid happened and I "ran the world " along with my friend because of that . The cause is good but Live Aid was a one off . You could not replicate it by its nature . This isn't Live Aid 2 . It' s not worthy of the name . Too few international stars and alot of people who are grateful of the publicity . I'm not dissing people like Katie Melua and Dizzy Rascal but I thing some have only taken part to raise their profile .
THEY BANNED PLAYING IT ON A WEST WALES RADIO STATION AS SO MANY PEOPLE PHONED UP AND SAID IT WAS CRAP............................. but not something I would listen too either..............
I heard it today, and thought what a load of tripe. The difference between this version and the original is that the original had so many distinct and brilliant voices. This new version sounds like the muppets. Even Robbie's voice sounded weak.
The argument being that 'today's record buying youngsters wouldn't know the original artists' and therefore less inclined to buy it. Similar to Westlife fans thinking all their songs are original.
