Newmarket rest of the card

The Guineas undercard-Saturday

Some good fare served up to support the main event.
In the Palace House I'm pleased to see the return of the classy Temple Meads. 20/1 Off since the Middle Park in 2010 where his saddle slipped early on yet he was still going well until the latter stages without help from the jockey. I believe he would have won easily that day and if, a big if, back to his former self he will demolish this lot . I've been restricted to minimal amounts by a couple of leading bookies and one wouldn't even allow me a £10ew double with a 16/1 shot:blink:. Eton Rifles is my alternative for the race.

In the 4.20 Personal Touch 16/1 is one that could live up to its name. Out of the weights he is one of two entered by Fahey. The other,Alejandro, ran behind the favourite for this race LTO and will have given the trainer a view of the relative merits. I see that Fahey,in his SL column made the comment below about this one which is fit and acts on the ground.

"I'm going totally against the grain by running Personal Touch from out of the handicap. He's a good little horse and ran a blinder first-time-out and we thought we'd come here for a £20,000 race rather than run off his proper mark for £6,000. He's a horse we like and he could run a big race."

No but he's a solid bet at 9/4 with Dunaden and MM carrying penalties. Not getting why Fiorente is second fav. Unless it's because of who his trainer is:whistle:

yep betting quotes: 9/4 best 13/8 worst on Meandre. Dunaden and MM carry penalties, but I was also fairly surprised to see Fiorente second favourite.

Reported quotes from Fabre: zilch, other than he could run Meandre at Newmarket. The same can't be said for Golden Lilac.

I have to say I'm quite sweet on the one Frankie Dettori sits on in the Palace house, Elusivity. Ignoring the last run slightly as it was his first try pitched up in grade (he probably needed the run first time out), and you have an improving 4 year old.

2nd at the backend of last year to an easy as-can-be Coral Sprint Trophy winner in Sirius Prospect ( that horse now rated 109). And 2nd to another decent horse from the Botti yard who ran well at Meydan a couple months back called Bohemian Melody.

I see the big firms are ducking Elusivitiy, for good reason I think.

Mayson looks a good bet in the Palace House. Travelled like a dream in the Abernant and easily disposed of some serious rivals.
Though dropping back in trip here, his trainer seems more concerned that the horse gets a lead than with the strength of the opposition.

I think Meandre is an odds on chance, surprised to see him 2/1
gr1 horse in a gr2 without a penalty , trained by Fabre,
proper bet

Still swithering whether to go today. Have a had a generally good run from the start of Cheltenham often due to good advice on here. Martin's superb reading of the hunters at Cheltenham this week alone generated a decent pot which I have re-invested today.Since I picked up on Aragorn's French fancies for the Guineas at an early stage I'm well in on Abtaal at nigh on 20's average and feeling quite hopeful for that one. So full of optimism backing in every race at Newmarket today.

Apart from Temple Meads ( I've probably bet more than I can justify on logic.) and Personal Touch ( hopefully an inspired punt) I think that Memory Cloth LTO was mighty impressive and can repeat. Dunaden has a tough task but as a quality animal could be up to it. Noble Mission is a small speculative punt though no great conviction on my part. Frog Hollow appeals in the last though several could be anything.

Mmmm;? trainer said (this morning's RP) that he's short of a run and needs faster ground.
Even with his penalty and not being fully fit, Dunaden ought to give them all a racee.

Al Khan

I'm surprised the Johnson horse has been pulled on account of the ground, which does have me concerned about other runners.

I was dithering over which one to make the main bet and even had second thoughts after putting the money, so the withdrawal is a slight relief.

The fact the he is still 7/1 best odds is a little of a concern as his form sticks out like a sore thumb to me, asssuming he's trained on.

Gp 2&3 runner, running off 91, with the horses in front and some behind now in the high 100's. Return to 6f is a possible issue.

Late in the day but Meandre is a terrible price:

- Doesn't like the ground
- Doesn't go well fresh
- Last years 3 year old middle distance colts were gash.

Margot Did has an excellent record when the word soft appears in the going and Turner gets on really well with her so I fancy her to run a big race in the Palace House.

Seems we're split on the Palace House on this forum. Elusivity is working his way up the betting market: He could win by my calculations, but good luck to everyone on their fancies. Looking forward to this.

He won a Group 1 on GS last year and whilst I accept your third point he had feck all to beat here if he'd progressed a tiny bit.

Meandre run too abd to be true, maybe he does not well first time out or has not train on,

however the winner was quite impresive.

Decent sprint handicap tomorrow - like the front two in the market Seal Rock and Maarek - drawn on either side... Anyone of you boffins got an opinion?

Had a look earlier, but Seal Rock needs soft and I'm not sure there'll be enough give tomorrow. On today's evidence I wouldn't back Maarek with counterfeit from that draw.
Colonel Mak and Bertie Whittle were the best I could come up with, with the former probably having the better draw.

Nice to see Tom Queally riding as badly as ever - all credit to Noble Mission for getting up despite that ride .

Perhaps Tom was busy trying to think of all the Group 1 winners he has ridden. It's a long list.
