After feast follows famine. Only two trackers at Newmarket for today and both in the one race - the Darley July Cup.
Starman is a worthy favourite after his solid Duke of York win at York. Withdrawn from Ascot’s Diamond Jubilee because of the lousy ground, he has got his ground this time (Can it really be good to firm? They’ve been kicking chunks out of the ground in the races I’ve watched). If Ed Walker is going be believed defeat is out of the question and it’s pretty hard to see past him.
Of some interest, though, is Art Power. He was well beaten by Starman at York, but I thought he got his mojo back at Ascot with a decent run into third in the DiamondJubilee. If he’s back near his best he’ll be a force to be reckoned with. I can’t recall him running on anything firmer than good, though. The market may talk.
Away from Newmarket Ajyaall is an interesting Haggas runner in the 1:45 at York. At early prices he’s 7/1 favourite (7/1!!) and some market action will be informative.
