ADAYAR 2nd. I thought Charlie Appleby’s comments were very downbeat and it will be interesting to see what he does with him now.

“William was happy with Adayar throughout the race. He made his move and at that point we thought we'd put it to bed as Israr was being pushed along and was under the pump. But William said as soon as he hit the rising ground he just emptied out and that's disappointing. When he won at Newmarket in the spring that bit was his best bit and he ran a good race at Ascot too. He's had a blow after the race, but it's not excessive and it's no more than you would think, and he's got form on the ground - I'm not going to use that as an excuse. In terms of the King George, I think realistically you're struggling to go to the race after a run like that given what sort of race it is. I'm not going to say definitely no, but this wasn't what we expected to happen today “- Charlie Appleby, trainer.

NOSTRUM, it was good to see him back and I think he will be making his presence felt in some top races (Sussex or Celebration Mile it’s mooted)

SIRONA was found out in a couple of Listed races ,but look good at this Class 3 level. She was taken off her feet early on, but finished strongly into second and I think she can go one better.

LOCAL DYNASTY 4th 3/1f got himself caught up in the pack and would have finished much closer but for that. Did much the same at Royal Ascot (hence in the tracker) so I think he’ll come good with a clear run.

It was good to see NASHWA back to her pomp, but I thought the favourite VIA SISTINA was given a real easy run - maybe the rain hadn’t go into the ground enough for her since she loves it soft. Run can be discounted I think.

ARABIC LEGEND looks to be a good one. Finished very strongly to win going away and Rob Hornby had to work hard to get him pulled up. Must keep an eye on this one.

Another one looking very special was CITY OF TROY and Aiden O’Brien waxed quite lyrical about him.

“I’m delighted with that, we’ve always thought a lot of him. City Of Troy is a very unusual horse; he's unbelievable mentally. Whatever speed you want to go he can keep pushing and he can go up and sit with anything we have. He's a lovely natured horse. Ryan couldn't pull him up at the Curragh last time and I knew he was going to go on earlier here today as there's not as much of a pull up after the line here! I was on the line and he came past me and started going again, so I was thinking 'oh no' He looks an incredibly special horse - he looks exciting to me. There's the National Stakes, the Dewhurst, the Futurity, all those races. We've had to back him up quickly here today but we knew Little Big Bear was coming over and the experience of coming over travelling with him was going to stand him in good stead as it's something we like to do with the two-year-olds if we can. It's unnatural ability “- Aidan O'Brien, trainer.

What can you say about SHAQUILLE . He has again lost enough ground at the start to kill off 99.9% of most horses’ chances. Then pulled like a train and ran so fast through the pack that he should have been gasping for breath towards the end. No way, won easily. He’s got some talent and he’ll tear everything apart if he can stay on terms with them at the start. It’s to be hoped that successfully training him for that doesn’t curb his impetuous desire which makes him so exciting.
