Just got back from a night out (don't feel great as always lol).
Anyway arranged to meet up with a gal off my course for her mates 21st, she was blind drunk when i met her (in the Old Fire Station bar, for the likes of Ardross, Ian it may have been the "new" firestation on Division Street when they knew it - might not have been mind) so i was stuck there like a numpty trying to make conversation and explain who i was.

Anyway, i digress they started off playing the likes of "All I Want For Christmas" - Mariah Carey etc. then they play "Irish Rover" - The Pogues, an Irish song i hear loads with the chorus line "every night when i get home the boys won't leave the girls alone, she is handsome, she is pretty, she is the belle of Belfast City", probs got that all wrong and then "Cotton Eye Joe" - Rednex which struck me as being an odd combo having moved on from the really Christmasy songs to this.

Anyone else noted odd combos?

A very odd combo . And that Fire Station on Division Street closed in about 1986 just after I came to Sheffield Uni .

My raceday colleague at Lingfield has a daughter married to a young feller from Limerick. Seems he has a great singing voice, with a good repertoire of Irish songs, many of them of the old kill-the-bloody-English fighting ilk. My colleague was mightily impressed by an evening's home entertainment and suggested to his son-in-law that he should sing at his club. "Oh, yes, and what's that, then?" inquired Limerick Lad. "Oh, you'd like it," chirped his father-in-law. "It's the Conservative Club."

He's recovering nicely from the bruises, and understands the word association game of Cromwell - Whig/Tory/Conservative-bastad-British much better now.
