Decided to look for a new car insurer and called up More Than to check out what they could offer, and as it saves me some £120 over Corinthian (current insurer), I've gone for them. During the Q&A necessary to get any over-the-phone service these days, the More Than clerk asked me how I knew about them. "Through Lucky on the adverts," I trilled, as an ardent admirer of the darling dog. I was then told that Lucky has, in fact, died since making his adverts, and is now represented by a double at More Than (or, rather, Royal & Sun Alliance's) road shows!

I do hope that Lucky didn't die in the line of duty, since his escapades always involved risk to life and limb. I suppose he'd be well insured, though!

krizon, it's probably too late but you get the insurance discounted even further if you book with More Than online rather than over the phone

Mm, thanks, Brian: I did know that, but I'm not desperately confident about using online services yet! Another five years, and I'll get round to it. :shy: I was going for their home contents insurance at the same time, too, but they want doors to have a deadbolt lock and a 5-lever lock. Mine has a deadbolt and a 3-lever and they wouldn't accept that, even though the door's internal and we have a manager and an entryphone system! I figured the cost of a locksmith and new bolt would outweight the savings.

My car insurance is coming up for renewal. I am with More Than and I was pleased to see that the premium shown on the reminder was lower than it had been last year. I then took my own advice and went online to More Than. I asked for a quote for exactly the same as I have already and as had been priced in the renewal letter (fully comp, £200 excess, no claims lifetime protection, legal expenses, recovery service). I was expecting a saving over around the 10% mark on their quote in the letter and was amazed to save 33%. So surprised that I went through the whole procedure again just to check that I hadn't made a mistake when completing the form.

I do wonder whether there is something wrong with their program?

When I tried More Than recently (twice: first for Mrs Mo then for myself) it was considerably dearer than other quotes. They obviously weigh factors quite differently from other companies.

(Halifax looked cheapest for Mrs Mo until I realised they were a subsidiary of Esure so I went online and got a further 10% directly from them. My own insurers, NIG, were considerably cheaper than any others. The reason I hadn't originally contacted Esure was because they wouldn't insure me last year on the grounds that my car had been written off in an accident in the previous three years but they didn't seem to mind my being a named driver on Mrs Mo's policy.)
