So it has been several weeks since our implosion. Things have settled down a bit, thankfully, so is there any thing we need to do next?

I am heartened that there is more evidence tonight of stalwarts returning, and that the forces of disruption are dormant. The new Mods here deserve congratulations for their leadership.

For my own part, the disruption caused me to join FF, and that has been positive as I now frequent two fora.

So in my opinion we need to get some more critical mass on board, Brian, Steve, Krizon etc, and we need to stop tippy toeing around and get a bit more fire back in the belly.

Any agreement? Suggestions?

Its up to Brian, Steve and K if they want to come back. Not sure if this thread is needed....best thing about the last week or so is were back talking about racing again (shock horror on a racing forum) and have members like EC1,chris,trackside etc etc posting more often now. New blood is as good as old blood!

Think on a practical side (and is has been discussed) is to maybe up date the software of the forum in the future as it is a bit dated. But hopefully not to the drastic levels TRF took it....place is very strange since which is a shame.

Good call An - I'm sure I'm registered at FF under about 5 aliases as I can't remember my passwords, don't post all that often though.

Here we go then a couple of classics to start with.

1. Dubai Millennium vs. Montjeu, who wins?

2. Nick Dundee vs Looks Like Trouble

Martin

Disagree myself with changing the forum software. May looked a bit dtaed compared to some. But that can put members off sometimes. I personally dont see a problem with the layout as it is. maybe a new flashier homepage to entice members and a big better banner but apart from that the forum itself looks okay.

That's the general intention anyway. I'm sure he'll find his way back on in some guise or other at some stage.

He has made many thousands of posts on this forum, a high proportion of which have been humorous, informative and/or debate inducing. Sometimes even going through long sequences of troll avoidance activities. A Troll-less Phil Waters would be a major asset to any forum.

For all we know, Pol Pot / Hitler / Pinochet / Ciaocescu probably did a few good deeds in their time - doesn't make the rest of their activities acceptable though :P

Don't get me wrong, I am fully behind his being banned, but the world would have been a better place if Pol Pot and Hitler got their kicks out of calling people names over the internet.

Now that the dust has settled, I've been meaning to bring up the fact that the person who started this thread is a shameless tool in the greater Fianna Fail strategy to Bertie-fy our entire nation,

He knows what I'm talking about........it's the likes of you that allow that man to think he has a place analysing games on the Premiership

definitely an improvement...... with the main mod gone and our troll!!!! dearly departed....... :angy:

Still room for improvement to stop the personal attacks that are still being doled out by a few on here.. ban them!! If they persist to do this...... :suspect:

New mods keep going as you've started............. :)

Out of interest when did the Channel4 forum close down?
I think it must have been about 2001. It had been growing well for a couple of years and, if my memory serves me well, C4 ended up employing a couple of people to run the forum but later pulled the plug on economic grounds.

A bit like the 'Turth and Reconciliation Commission' :P

Don't be under illusions :D For all his faults one thing Phil wasn't, is stupid. He'll find a way back if he chooses to. Much as though i don't wish to set up a 'tribiute thread' (please delete mods if you feel it inappropriate) He combined mischief, vitirol and ingenuity (it's a deadly combination).

Protocol prevents me from reproducing some of the PM's I exchagned with him, but there were clearly issues that vexed him on a matter of right and wrong (in life rather than this forum). He wasn't all bad.

There were however other inflamatory posts which I personally wish he'd never posted. I'm sure he's capable of looking in, which is why I half appeal to let this remain.

IMHO, Phil was bored and needed stretching (some of you would say on a rack) I can understand that, and I believe he can too. I do believe however, if serious push came to shove, he was a basically decent type.

I can't defend some of his more outrageous efforts, and won't try to, I just feel he had a self-destruct streak in him and at times seemed determind to push that bonudary to find out where it was. It's just a shame really.

Phil, if you could channel your creative energy into something creative, you'd be pretty dynamic. I'm the last person to start handing lectures, but please think on it?

The new mods have been doing a great job and the forum has been in many respects a much pleasanter place to spend time since the implosion than it was before. Much quieter too - but much less strident. The old forum often seemed like a dialogue of the deaf! - everyone shouting and no-one listenting, except at times to take offence.

Welcome back to ALL those who choose to return - but no return please to the mud-slinging and personal feuds & criticisms. Let's hope good will come from it all - you know what they say, 'no pain no gain' :) - a lot has been learned, let's not waste it

Reading this thread is like watching Harry Potter - what with he whose name cannot be said.

We had stopped posting (not that I did that much but Isinglass did) and have missed everybody but what with Voldemort (opps) on here and all the wand waving it got boring.

Well done to those whose magic sorted it out. I look forward to an informative discussion forum again, in colour thanks to our photo contributors!
Hopefully everyone can be nice to each other now...........

I thought it was 1999 to be honest....seems aaaaaaaaaages ago.

Refreshing to be online again during the last week or so and log into a forum thats busy again and no trouble...long may it last.

If it helps, FF was started in November 1998, at which time the channel 4 racing forum was still in operation. Daylight started the racing Forum 18 months later, and I believe this forum started around the same time.
That would be around April 2000 time.

I feel the forum has taken on a new identity or flavour, with a strongly Irish influence. It's good in that it's now becoming very distinct from FF though in a different way than it was before - that's changed a lot too of course in the last few weeks.

I'm currently quite happy with both forums, in that people seem to be minding their manners these days - and I'm glad they're not indistinguishable which would be boring!
