Some people have no idea, do they? At Wednesday's British Comedy Awards, in the section after terrestrial TV had ceased covering the event, Hollywood director Oliver Stone was introduced to present the award to the best comedy film (won by Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit).
He said in his preamble: "It's great to be back in England. I feel like Jack The Ripper days are back. Nothing ever changes here."
There was the odd drunken cackle of laghter but mainly the sound was as that of the sagebrush blowing over the icy desert.
