Not an over busy start to the week on the gallops but as usual on a Wednesday morning a few of the leading trainers put some of their better prospects through their paces.

Over on Saeed Bin Suroor’s Tapeta Aw surface in Snailwell, it was good to see promising 2yo filly Nashama back in full work and working over 6f the daughter of Pivotal moved nicely in hand with a fellow 2yo Warda. The unraced half sister to Centennial has always been very high up on the Godolphin juvenile pecking order and moving nicely in hand here she remains one to look out for in a maiden before the end of the season.

Ibn Sina is another nice type who shouldn’t be too far off his first run now and led by Barq the unraced colt powered strongly upsides looking as if he could be a nice prospect in the making.

Henry Cecil was another trainer putting juveniles through their paces and Tom Queally was in to sit on Miss Antonia who is set to run on Tuesday at Yarmouth. Sitting in behind recent Chester winner Jacqueline Quest, the twice raced filly quickened up in good style, travelling the better of the pair as they completed their 7f workout on the Al Bahathri.

On Her Way is a backward filly who has needed plenty of time, but I was taken by the way she travelled in a trio of workers over 7f this morning. Whilst showing nothing flashy she travelled comfortably with her companions suggesting she could be one to monitor closely in the closing weeks of the season.

Govern done too much too early at Folkestone last time but his debut 2nd to Business As Usual looks rather solid with Mont Agel winning in isolation at Windsor since. Govern was partnered by Ian Mongan this morning and stretched out nicely with Florentine Ruler looking as if he shouldn’t be too far off a maiden win.

Notice Given is another slowly getting the hang of things and working 6f with Mingun Bell this morning you couldn’t help but be impressed with the way he stretched away from his companion. The Oasis Dream colt would look a penalty kick in a nursery off 71 but an entry in maiden company on Friday at Doncaster suggests connections are not looking to go down that route. He suggests that he will be suited by either 6 or 7f but the key to him is quick ground. He’s one I would want on my side and he could be a very smart handicapper next season.

Gerard Butler was out first thing on the Limekilns and Kieren Fallon was in to sit on the promising Arte Viva. She was disappointing at Wolverhampton last time but looked in smart form this morning working better than Baibars (Hayley Turner) who in turn was just in front of their lead Mount Hadley. The trio went a good gallop here and confidence is high that Arte Viva can break her maiden tag at Yarmouth on Tuesday.

Friday 16th October

A quiet Friday morning as the end of the season looms but at first light on the Limekilns, Peter Chapple-Hyam was keen to get a serious workout into Racing Post Trophy hopeful Coordinated Cut. Partnered by Kieren Fallon the Doncaster winner worked 8f with a good lead horse in Thief Of Time who was partnered by Adrian McCarthy.
Setting good fractions Thief Of Time saw that it was a strong piece of work and the pair quickened up from the 5 to the 8.
Coordinated Cut travelled comfortably under Fallon and when asked to go about his business he lengthened in good style to draw on by a couple of lengths. Despite there being no bells and whistles about the gallop, it was pleasing to see Coordinated Cut in good form, and he now heads to Doncaster for the Racing Post Trophy.

Another juvenile to note is Strong Vigilance and the Mr Greeley colt looked in really good form as he quickened up in taking style working 7f with 3yo maiden Mydy Easy. Entered at Doncaster Strong Vigilance looks a useful prospect who should give a good account of himself providing too much rain doesn’t arrive between now and the weekend.

Natural Flair continues to improve and she looked in good form completing a solo gallop over the mile.

Saturday 17th October

The early risers on Saturday morning were up on the Snailwell Gallops, watching Saeed Bin Suroor’s horses stretch their limbs out on the Tapeta Aw surface.

Ladbrokes St Leger winner Mastery looked in good form in his gallop leading a couple of improving sorts over 7f. Relaxed in front he wound it up from halfway keeping on gamely a neck to the good of the progressive Naseehah who looks to be coming good, whilst Samaaha really caught the eye powering down the outside coming through late to take a narrow advantage. The daughter of Singspiel looks very well treated off 79 at present and a staying handicap should fall into her lap between now and the end of the season.

La De Two has just started to show a bit more in his work and whilst a venture to the Dubai Carnival now looks likely, he moved nicely in a trio of slow maturing types. Led by Royaaty he moved nicely upsides, with a strong travelling Hajmah coming on the scene late. She was very disappointing last time at Windsor but she is currently very well handicapped off 78 and if the rain comes at Bath she will have excellent claims for the 5.00 on Wednesday.

Ted Durcan partnered Shaweel in his latest gallop and he looked in top form picking up Hatta Fort in pleasing style as the pair worked 6f this morning. In an even gallop, Shaweel moved nicely in hand and looked in really top form ahead of a comeback at Doncaster in conditions company on Saturday. He’ll be very hard to beat.

Delegator again gave the impression sprinting may be his cup of tea and led by regular lead River Tiber, the 2000 Guineas runner up cruised upsides before powering on strongly in the final furlong comfortably 3/4L in front of his companion. The Dansili colt could well head to America now, but looks a fine candidate for the sprint division next season.

It was rather quiet in the town, but Gerard Butler again worked one of his nicer 2yo colts and Hayley Turner was in to sit on recent maiden winner Swiss Cross. Led at a strong pace over 7f, the Newmarket winner moved comfortably before quickening up impressively with his lead travelling the better of the pair at the end of the gallop. It was a pleasing piece of work and Swiss Cross looks a useful juvenile.

Work-watchers Notes

Class Horse – Delegator (Saeed Bin Suroor) continues to look in top order despite a long season and he was very impressive in his latest gallop going smoothly in front of his regular lead, A trip to America likely beckons.

Sure-fire Winner – Giant’s Play (Sir Michael Stoute) hasn’t run since a promising 2nd at Kempton on debut but she moved smartly with an elder lead on Saturday morning when working a mile under Ryan Moore. She went through a growing stage after her debut run but she looks in top form at present and is certainly one to note in the coming weeks.

Ahead Of The Handicapper – Ebony Boom (Henry Cecil) looks a completely different prospect to what he did a month ago and he was very impressive on Saturday morning when travelling powerfully with Govern and Patio Square. Off 75 he should take all the beating at Wolverhampton on Friday.

Dark Horse – Conceptual Art (Michael Bell) is a slow maturing sort but he is starting to show plenty of progress in his gallops to suggest he could be a shade useful. He is one for the notebooks.

Good Luck

2.20 Yarmouth today pits Miss Antonia against Arte Viva, the market drift on Arte Viva was very telling last time out, will be interested to see if the opposite occurs today, currently 10/1 & 10/3 respectively.

EDIT: The betfair market is over 4/1 AV & they're asking for 8 on Miss Antonia, the 10/1 with Bet £3.65 won't last long...

I've been waiting for Giant's Play to reappear and she runs at Doncaster on Friday. Her debut was promising to say the least although the form hasn't worked out at all.

Cheers for that Flame. I know you did not rate Al Zir that highly previously...be interested to hear your views about him in the two year old thread whenever you get a chance.
