Murder suspect Eamonn Lillis has admitted he made up a story about a burglar killing his wife at their luxury home, his trial heard today.
The 52-year-old was also having an affair in the run-up to the brutal death of Celine Cawley, a top advertising executive and former model, prosecutors said.

On the opening day of his trial, defence barrister Brendan Grehan said his client, who denies murdering his wife in December 2009, was making a number of admissions.

Among these, were that he lied to investigators about how Ms Cawley died on the decking at the rear of their home, Rowan Hill at Windgate Road, in the exclusive suburb of Howth, north Dublin.

The television producer will retract his original claims that a balaclava-clad intruder attacked his wife and then himself as he returned from walking the dogs on the morning of her death.

Prosecutor Mary Ellen Ring said forensic analysis of three mobile telephones used by the defendant revealed he was having an affair with a woman named Jean Tracey.

The woman is expected to give evidence that her lover admitted having an argument with his wife which turned violent.

Investigating gardaí will also tell the trial they recovered a suitcase of blood-stained clothes in the attic of the defendant’s house during follow-up searches.

Tissue and blood found embedded in the face of a watch worn by the accused also matched DNA samples of his late wife, Ms Cawley.

This chap is the biggest certainty to go down since Lewinsky, he's just pissing off the judge........unless of course....the one armed man .........

Wheres the need for a 4-6 week trial then? I find it hard to believe that the case needs to go on so long.

Oh yes we already have an innocent man like Joe O Reilly in prison, who not send another in without trial.

Are you taking the piss again Gearoid.....hard to know this time ?

I am very serious. Had I been on the jury I would have found Joe O Reilly not guilty. He lost a trial by media without any concrete evidence and if there was ever a petetion for him to get an appeal I would be the first to sign it.

Do YOU think he is guilty?

My opinion does not matter. I have never seen any evidence to convince me beyond reasonable doubt that he is. The lastest apperance of Rachels family on The Late Late Show left a sour taste too. When asked had she a message if Joe was watching the mother said along the lines that she just wants him to admit to killing Rachel. Perhaps she needs to hear that to be certain herself.

So is every murder. Im shocked JOR has not got an appeal. So while the man that this thread was started for may well be guilty he should be given a trial of whatever length is required.

A note Lillis had written was submitted as evidence yesterday. It describes his feeling that his wifes death was a matter of urgency. Show's the murder was premeditated. He won't get off with man slaughter now unless they can make it clear that she was a violent bitch herself. Either way he's a cert for prison.
