Goodkat believes that Kempton this evening, will be the the scene of the crime for the latest "job" in British racing. The irrepressible Richard Guest, racings answer to Luca Brasi, fields his likeable speedball, Best Trip, in the 6.10 Back Or Lay At betdaq.com Handicap of the Class 5 variety. The 5yo gelding has had a somewhat dissappointing return from a break on the face of it, but Goodkat understands that all may not be as it appears.
This time last year, Best Trip was a horse in the form of his life, winning handicaps at his beloved Kempton off marks of 73 and 76, before running arguably the best race of his career, when 2nd to the remarkably well handicapped Mymumsaysimthebest, from a mark of 80. Everything that could have went wrong for him, did so that day, but the horse more than proved he had the ability to not only compete, but to win from that rating. Due to what can only be described as a masterclass in pulling the wool over the handicappers eyes, Best Trip finds himself running off a 10 pounds lower mark tonight, and his rials best beware, as the horse known affectionately as Old Besty, is ready to rock and roll around the tight, right handed bends of the famous Kempton Park all weather circuit.
Richard Guest though, can not, and I suspect will not, take all the credit for this wonderful play, for it is noteworthy that Best Trip had developed a slight breathing problem towards the back end of his last campaign, which the trainer has used to his advantage and rightly so in these hard times. The horse was noted running with his tongue out the last day and a decision has been taken to strike before the bookies catch on. The application of a tongue tie fixed the minor problem and he will now sport the tac for the first time on a racetrack proper, but its no secret in the yard that Best Trip has been blazing up the Haggswood all weather gallop like a horse possessed since the fitting. As such, the money will be down in large quantaties later today and he is expected to do a job in the hands of the vastly underrated, Adam Kirby.
The best available price at the minute is 11/1 and I would advise that you snap this up, the horse will likely be trading around the 9/2 mark come post time and represents an excellent back to lay proposition if you are that way inclined. 11/1 about a horse who is sure to trade as low as 6/4 in the run is good in anyones books, but my advice would be not to lay, as I do not like to throw money away.
Yours faithfully,
Goodkat
Good luck as always.
