Not got much to lose.
Sis and bro on law celebrating 40th wedding anniversary St Patricks' weekend and thinking of Paris. They have never been but are on a budget so looking for somewhere to stay which is on 'cheap/good valie side' but clean. Will be going as foot passengers on Eurostar and are what might be though of slightly novice travellers. Sis has limited access to internet but I can look/ print out for them. Any recommendations/advice gladly welcome. Thanks.

When I was looking for cheap hotels for my trip to Italy last year, I used Trivago.com then checked out what people said about the place via Trip Advisor. As a result I picked 4 really nice places and couldn't fault any of them. With Trip Advisor you do have to pick through the reviews a bit as some people complain about the slightest thing. But bear in mind cleanliness, noise nad location and you should find it straight forward.

This is one hotel which is cheap but clean and has fair reviews:

Depends on what they think is cheap - for me it was under £58/night for the room and I managed it easily. But worth looking through Trivago as one booking firm can charge double the price another one does.

Travelsupermarket can scrape good deals too.

This deal I have in Spain right now was something like £30 per day in a 4* hotel, all-inclusive. Considering I can easily get through a bottle of wine between lunch and dinner, a beer and crisps as an aperitif, a couple of pints in the afternoon and/or evening, coffee/tea, Coca-Cola etc, I reckon they must be putting me up for next to nothing!

Good site but I'd still double check them through Trivago and Trip Advisor as this site only quotes per person whereas most sites quote per room and it is can be considerably cheaper.

Don't even bother with hotels in Paris. It's like a raffle I find, for the Arc last year I paid through the nose for a box room.

Get an apartment through Air BnB: https://www.airbnb.com/

I stayed here in December when I went: https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/307338 which was beautiful and in my favourite area of Paris. It's £131 for 2 nights on the weekend you mention and there are plenty of good bakeries nearby for breakfast.

If they still want a cheap hotel though, I can recommend this one: http://www.hotel-canal-st-martin.com/uk/index.php

Clean and basic, think Premier Inn standards but avoid the dated classic rooms. I stayed there for a few racing trips and only stopped staying there as the WiFi was so bad.
