As you all may have noticed it's not stopped raining and whilst staying in our caravan my wife and I (to pass time between plaster-boarding my brother's barn) have been inventing group nouns for things.

This was initiated by the BBC weatherman talking about 'a crescendo of showers.'

Our best so far was ... a parody of anecdotes!

Can anyone do better ....

An ineptitude of civil servants...

A smuggery of investment bankers...

A desperation of social workers...

A confusion of teachers...

A smokescreen of government policies...

A venality of EU administrators...

A hysteria of news programmes...

A vacuity of celebrities...

A feckfest of so-called comedians...

A dosh-dash of Turner Prize artists...

Mrs O did this a number of years ago with one of her third-year classes. They came up with: a nuisance of first years.

A bit harsh, Muttley - I thought things were quite good now, at least publicly. An intolerance of fanatics, I'd like!

A prattle of opinion-makers.

A slither of ageing Lotharios.

A raddle of badly-ageing wimmin.

A squeal of young children.

A pout of young girls.

A bumble of gauche youths.

A desolation of homeless people.

A handwring of hopeless people.

An opulence of rich people.
