Really like this horse and think he could be a really decent novice hurdler this year under the right conditions but Paul Webber's placement of the horse really needs to be highlighted. Rated 113 AFTER pulling 18 lengths clear of the rest with First Point (subsequent winner off 133) and Swinton winner the mighty Joe Jo Star (off 129) Webber decided to send him for a maiden hurdle, wins it by a distance and ends up rated 135. Still, first prize money was £2,740.

I remember him beating the mighty Pescatorio on the flat in Limerick when trained in Ireland (by Charles O'Brien?).

Paul Webber is always a contender in the "most inept trainer of the year" contest, despite having a lovely set-up at Cropredy Lawn.

He advised the then owner to sell State Of Play. Horse went on next season to win the Hennessy for Evan Williams. Rumour has it the former owner (a lady) was not amused. Webber's very amusing though, and a nice guy, if you enjoy socialising with your trainer!

hmm, in my boredom tonight i've reached the desperate stage of trying to read between the lines, but it sounds like the bloke spends more time socialising with female owners than training horses???

Who is this bloke, I want to make friends.

No, and I think he married a couple of years ago anyway! - but he is very charming and tells a good story. Some owners love that side of ownership - they like to be entertained at the races

Ah so you mean he is a bright talkative chap, an enter-trainer!

No form of conspiracy there then!

Maybe the owner can buy him a form book with the prize money?

Time For Rupert was a big winner for me in the Aintree bumper last April so given PW now has the Midas Touch you would do well to remember the name later this season.

After falling at the first in a hurdle race just now at Kempton Australia Day jumped the last two fences on the final straight with aplomb.

Might be time to go novice chasing with him.

Obstacles cleared whilst running loose 2

Apologies for the correction, but the score actually stands at least 0-3 as he cleared the second last as well, before heading out to complete another circuit on his own!

What a legend of a horse he is, backed him on the flat a few times this year and loved seeing him clearing the fences so easily!

He jumped them great and was loving it! As I say, so much so that he completed a third lap on his own after the race was over.

Given how well he goes at Sandown, could be an interesting one for the big 2m handicap they have there on Tingle Creek day.

157 these days after just the one subsequent win. Sumptious placement. Should be fun watching him whizz round Wincanton mind.

Imagine what Charles Byrnes could have done with the horse? He would have got into the old ladbroke hurdle in Leopardstown as first reserve and backed into odds on.

Gearoid that would be after winning three with him - he would have got him dropped to 95 - broken his jaw in a flat race racing 60 metres wide all the way around!!
