What an amazing achievement to get round and finish 5th having never sat on a horse 12 months ago.

However, you have to say. Nicholls has thrown away another festival winner there. An experienced amateur would have got that home.

Glad I didn't back it though. The focus was definitely on getting round rather than winning!

Thought she did amazingly well - hard to believe she'd never ridden before last year, well done Victoria

I thought that was Paul Carberry riding Pacha there...Pendy looked like she barely moved a muscle!
Well done to her I say, Cant be doing with these grumpy ars*es waffling on about it
Money this.....Betfair that....
Its a feel good story so just go with it

P.S Nina is the queen :)

Chances are if she'd got animated in the saddle she'd have unbalanced the horse. I thought it was a great ride on a doubtful stayer.

Anyone who backed her to win was off their head or didn't know anything about racing.

I was annoyed by all the hype on GC day, but I thought she looked really tidy out there and thumbs up.

Hopefully we can get back to the horses now.

Not sure if you've "trying" to be funny but I think it is pretty obvious that the audience extended far beyond the cycling world

I think he was saying that a lot of people watch cycling that may have been tuning in today when usually they wouldn't have.

no i wasn't trying to be funny..the point was pretty obvious to me..cycling is a big audience sport..most probably not a large % horse racing fans..a rich harvest for our game i would imagine

i can't believe i have to explain this

thanks Ricko..proves the point ..it was clear to understand

I agree with almost everything that has been said but thought it was unfair at the end of the race for all the focus to be on her and not the winning jockey and horse

It bothers me that her 5th is a more prominent headline on the BBC Sport app than Don Cossacks win.

The achievements of the horse, trainer & jockey to win a Gold Cup far outweigh what she has achieved.

I thought that her staying to congratulate Nina summed up how she had carried herself during this whole "experiement" (for want of a better word). Whilst it took some of the gloss away from the Gold Cup and Nina winning - can we really complain for her getting racing on the mainstream news in a good way? when was the last time racing had this much news coverage that didnt relate to drugs / horse fatalities?

Imagine riding that race knowing that so many people had stayed to see her fall off but managing to pull off a result like that must have made her feel so proud.

People can crab on about her doing it for publicity / money whatever but at the end of the day, she rode around Cheltenham, finished safe and sound along with the horse and put racing in such a positive light that who are we to complain if she isnt the most stylish or accomplished (yet). We need more star names in the game in both codes as we cant rely on the current crop esp on the Flat to promote the sport as well as Frankie does - for all his faults he does give Flat racing a better profile than most jockeys riding!

All I can say is hats off to her - and good luck to her going forward!

great effort from pendo. doubt she'd get a booking off her own back but it'd be interesting to see if she can keep improving.

Fair enough EC I wouldn't have thought cycling would have a big fan base at all, certainly wouldn't here, my bad!

Good to see her get round safely and outperform expectations.

Reported in today's RP as saying she's going to keep on riding out and trying to improve as a jockey under her own steam. Fair play to her if that's genuinely the case, nice to see she's been bitten by the bug.
