Phoenix Stakes

Does look a good race. No strong opinion but am willing to give Rockaway Valley another chance to hit the frame. Think he's better than his last run.

Rockaway Valley looked really good when pace disadvanted behind Air Force..but was taken apart by Painted Cliffs..using RV as a marker you'd have to think PC should win this really IF that was RV true running. I'll go with PC at the prices.

Joseph is riding out of his skin since Ryan Moore got injured.
Any rumours of him retiring at end of the season may be premature if he can keep up this level of form and control his weight.
Very impressive win.

We've had this conversation a few times before about the Phoenix but it really is a graveyard for Coventry winners. Even O'Brien with his incredible record in it (14/18) has seen 3 of his 4 reverses with Coventry winners: HTN, Power and War Command.

Add in the likes of Three Valleys, Hellvlyn, Red Clubs, Art Connoisseur, Strong Suit and now Buratino, most of whom saw a Ballydoyle inmate comprehensively reverse Ascot form and it really is a race for trends. I reckon Fasliyev was the last to do the double and that was when the race was at Leopardstown.

thanks ( for good info)

And here we go again. Caravaggio likely to be long odds on but......

Fasliyev still the last to do the double and that was when the race was at Leopardstown. 5 of O'Brien's last 6 winners of this weren't favourite.

The only credible opposition is Medicine Jack (Railway winners do well in this) or one of the stablemates (depending on what runs). Is Caravaggio the one to finally break the hoodoo?

Caravaggio wins of course but I'll take the 8.2 for Courage under Fire to nab 2nd as genuine quick ground will be more up his street than his last run at Galway.

Caravaggio seemingly did 45 mph last week at Ballydoyle.
Measured on GPS APOB has "never before seen anything like it !"
Plus ca change.....

He's the fastest horse they've had since the last fastest horse they've had and until the next fastest horse they've had.

Some of the other quotes from O'Brien suggest that they have real doubts about this lad's stamina. I think there are real question marks over him even turning up at Newmarket in May.

I heard Aidan mention the Middle Park in his interview on ATR but you would imagine he would have to be winning over 7f if they had a classic campaign in line for him.
Has there ever been a Guineas winner who hadn't won over 7f or more in his 2yo season?

Not long at all in fact :o, Night of Thunder
