All this forum negativity over Tom Scudamore has got me worried as David Pipe seems to have assembled a good squad of horses which im planning on backing for the festival.

Personally Im not much of a judge of jockeyship and but is Scu really that bad?
and will it affect the performance of Pipes horses next week?

P.S I quite like him !

No he just isn't that good.

Horses win despite him not because of him, however they have plenty of other jockeys: watch the second/third strings too

Probably most of the Pipe horses will not be confirmed until the last possible moment although they have multiple entries.

A jockey can make all the difference, that's why Ruby, AP etc are so in demand. I remember years back, the scoop 6 winner had to pick the winner of the Racing Post Chase. He called Martin Pipe, who told him that their horse Gloria Victis would be a certainty if AP was on but would have a very good chance if ridden by Richard Johnson.

Imagine the gulf between those two and Tom Scu?

It's a tough one... I like Red Sherlock. But David Pipe's Cheltenham Festival Record is awful! We discussed this on here briefly before and I think someone posted that he had won 2 or 3 handicaps in recent years.

I looked into it in a little more detail to see was his record really that bad.

He took over from Martin before 2007 Chelt festival. So David now has 7 Festivals under his belt.

4 Championship races, 3 novice hurdles, 3 novice chases, Bumper, Mares & Ryanair. 13 races. 13 x 7 = 91 races .................

1 winner. Our Vic in the 2008 Ryanair.

A trend to ignore or a warning to heed ?!?

How many runners has he had in those 91 races, out of interest?

I Think Tom is a work horse for the yard,he puts the graft in and is a more of a team player than star player.I have some corporate hospitality on one of the days next week with the owners of one at the The Pipes-that record up above, add the pertemps to it.

Good question.... Haven't a clue though! I was just looking at overviews of results of all those big races in the past 7 years and was never Seeing David Pipe's name.

I also have memories of his stable stars and market fancies flopping badly at Cheltenham in recent years.
