Last night on BBC2 I caught the end of a film Stage Beauty. Despite missing most of the film I really enjoyed the last 20-30 minutes of the film. Just looked on the net now to see how much it would be to buy when I see its not due for DVD or VHS release until the 27th of this month. So how come BBC had it on before it was even out on DVD?

OK not the most pressing question to be answered but just curious. Always thought the films were out for rent/sale long before they got on our tv screens.

Not sure of the particular film in question Aidan but could it be a BBC Drama courtesy of BBC 4, they show them on BBC1 or 2 and then release them on DVD/VHS.

As the BBC are joint producers they are not subject to the usual delay before TV screening - otherwise they would be preventing themselves from showing their own film! It's the same with Channel 4 Films.
