Can someone explain what seems very odd to me at PM's questions.

When the speaker gives the name of the next MP to ask a question, half a dozen others stand up and then sit down, it's like a reflex action !

When David Cameron was named by the speaker, a few others stood up but they don't seem to have a purpose ?

Anyone know ?
 
All the MPs who stand up have tabled questions and are waiting to be called on. Naturally, the party leaders are called on first so not all of them can get their chance.
