Now Hollywood is getting in on the act. After 'Stuey', the story of the highs and lows of ultimately tragic three times world champion Stu Ungar, which obtained a cinema release after being shown originally in the USA on cable TV, comes news of two more poker movies.

Under production is 'Lucky You' with Eric Bana, Drew Barrymore, Robert Duvall and Robert Downey Jnr. Bana plays a professional poker player out to win a World Championship.

Please let this one be good. Well, director Curtis Hanson made 'LA Confidential' ... but he also directed 'Wonder Boys'. Eric Roth scripted 'The Insider' ... but he was also the screenwriter on 'Forrest Gump'.

I believe most of the big US poker stars appear as themselves, including Johnny Chan, Daniel Negreanu, Jesus, Hellmuth, Jennifer Harman, John Juanda, Mike Matusow, Barry Greenstein, Erik Seidel and daddy of them all Doyle Brunson - who's also serving as a "technical consultant".

Now Milos Forman is making 'Amarillo Slim', with Nicholas Cage cast as the poker legend Amarillo Slim Preston. I guess the nonsense with the young girls won't get a mention...

I echo your sentiments, made well a poker movie can provide excellent entertainment....all the more so if your an afficienado. Rounders of course being a good example.
Done bad, and you`ll get things like five minutes into a game a four of a kind will get beat by someone`s royal. The sort of thing Eastenders or Hollyoaks have been known to do.

I liked Rounders. There were a lot of moments where I felt "I have been there" Matt Damon is an underated actor.

For all the poker on t.v, Mike Matusow must be the best player not to feature in the "invitational" events. Gus Hansen has never got a sniff of a WSOP final table never mind two of them. Was watching the 2002 final table the other night where Mike Matusow tried to bluff off a pot with a 72! Thats class! Looking forward to seeing his play from this year rather than the boring Andy Black. Why is he never seen in other tournaments?

Yeah obviously, but I'm talking about bullshit programes like superstars etc. I'm wondering is he mainly a cash player?

No, he's twenty-fifth in one set of this year's tournament rankings that I saw, but his main game is Omaha Hi-Low, which might explain it. He can be a pain in the arse too...
