Primark

I buy all my shirts & ties for work there. You can bin them after a year and feel as though you've got your money's worth from them.

I got two shirt and tie combinations from there for £6 each today and a plain white, long-sleeved shirt for £3.

I haven't seen a Primark in Swindon but I do buy stuff for the girls from Asda. I've the same attitude as Maurice, I buy their school uniforms cheap as chips and bin it at the end of the school year. Today I got Emily a winter coat for £8 from there. We're both delighted with it :D

MATALAN is very good too I bought a silk tie for a fiver last week...... I tell you what there's a company on line owned by the ex England player Fran Cotton that produces class stuff more of the casual stuff but its first class...................

COTTON TRADERS HERE

This just gets worse. [/b][/quote]
Feck all wrong with MATALAN they do suits for £50 but not for me being xx large, T shirts & boxers are o/k too I can pick up one or two of these.

Bedding, I bought a 13-5 tog duvet DOUBLE for £12 ..

EURO they do,do track suits here but not rail!! track.......suits...... :P

I have to draw the line at suits from these places.

A guy at work proudly wears his Matalan suit and it simply looks like a cheap suit. For similar reasons, I can't see me sporting a suit from Primark. No offence intended, Merlin.

I buy my suits from Slaters. They're good quality at affordable prices. I usually pick one a shade to big and spend ages getting them to adjust it to fit me like a made-to-measure as the adjustments are free. I'd rather pay £90 (which is all you need to pay for a usable suit for work) or up to £250 for something a bit more important, knowing the same would cost £120-£400 in the High Street.

When I wear my 'good' suit to work, the reaction from the women is very positive ;)

(For those of you who've never experienced Slaters, they have a branch in Cheltenham, so if you're there for the PP meeting you could try popping in early on the Saturday to check them out. You might be very surprised.)

I buy my trousers fpr work from Tesco, £8 a pair and they last a year. The advantage for me is that they are polyester and managing a coffee shop there are times when hot milk gets spilled on me, with the cheap trousers it just rolls off, rather than soaking in to the cotton ones and burning me

We are having a Primark in Poole - its been "opening soon" for 8 months ..... <_<

Theres a really funky striped jumper for £6 I want to ride out in, but there doesnt appear to be one in Bournemuoht either!!!! :angy:

Slaters is also very good and I agree totally, DO. A cheap suit looks like a cheap suit.

I bought a couple of white polo shirts from Primark for something like £6, as against what I usually pay from Land's End, it's brilliant. I've bought a bunch of t-shirts this summer and some socks, too. Jolly good stuff for everyday or roughie-toughie wear. Not being into labels, if I can get a shirt for work which looks and washes just as well as one at twice the price, that's the one for me!

We also have a branch in both Brighton and Hove of Peacock's, another cheapie store with a fabulous range of accessories. I've bought lots of very pretty bangles and a bag or two for pennies, plus a hat for a fiver which looks nice (and the good thing with cheap hats is that you can dress them up for smarter occasions). My previous Arscot hat cost around £150, so I found this quite a pleasing saving.

POLYESTER trousers are comfortable, when I was bouncing I always wore these type of trousers as they are flexible and you can move in them too, other peoples blood ran off them quite easily as well... :o ;) I bought the trousers from British home stores, but they are no longer in Kairdiff..........

We have a Slaters here too but my need to wear a suit is minimal of late! So needless to say I don't own one that will fit now........... so its casual wear I go for.....

Peacocks are a Kairdiff company actually, they have a shop in most of the suburbs here and their H-Q is here also, I always shopped there when wed with three children I could not afford to shop elsewhere.........

p.s I have used Primark to buy occasional clothing too..............

I had my first ever job in Peacocks when I was fifteen. I was paid the princely sum of £2 per hour and I worked for four hours every Saturday afternoon. God I hated it there!

Can't say I have ever crossed the threshold of a Primark!! Don't reckon it's gonna happen either....
Quite right, it`s ok for work i suppose (although Mr Branston pays for my uniform) but you get what you pay for.

That the more you pay the better the item is, in my opinion, is one of the greatest popular misconceptions of our time, probably started off by a company specialising in selling garbage at inflated prices.

Having bought a Calvin Klein suit last month and have it split the first time I used it (along the forearm) I tend to agree with you in some respects, DO.

Maybe, but i find with shoes in particular that if one buys a cheap pair they last a year tops (i`m on my feet all day at work) but the Dr Martens i wear in the winter will probably last me close to ten years.

I accept your point in regard to labels however.

That reminds me of the time I looked at a suit in a High St / high price outlet. It was in the flashy "50% OFF" sale, reduced to £299. When I checked the label, it was 100% polyester, the stitching was poor, the waistband was flimsy and there was no inner lining. But it had a big name label.

In Slaters, for less than a third of the price, I got a fitted 3-pc number 80/20 wool/polyester which, 17 years later, is still in pristine condition. It still fits perfectly as I'm the same fat b@stard I was then.

What I find so positive is that teenagers seem to have turned away from simply buying brand names and paying ridiculous amounts just to have bragging rights.

As the father and financier of two teenagers I have a financial interest but when one of my sons dictates that he wants to go to Primark and Asda(George) first and I find that the quality of some of the products is extremely good I feel there is some hope for the future.
