Ten years of allowing criminal justice policy to be dictated by the tabloid press are now coming home to roost .

Four populist idiots in the Home Office - Straw , Blunkett ,Clarke and Reid.

Prisons overcrowded

People sent to universities of crime

Children turned from minor yobs to full grade thugs
 
On the bright side, same tabloid press has destroyed any lingering hopes Reid had of succeeding Blair.
 
You can't send them to Australia anymore.

Maybe there's something to that, send them to a cricket academy and maybe in a couple of generations time ...

Peadophiles are are a tough bunch to sort out. Once they have served their sentence they should be free to get on with there lives - but not anywhere near me.
 
Re the overcrowding how do the americans manage? My impression, which may well be wrong, is that you go to prison for lessor crimes and for longer sentences than in Britain or Ireland. Do they have more prisons per head of population, or a lower detection rate, or am I just plain wrong.

Any figures for re-offenders must be very high here as prison is now like a holiday camp??? :o from what I have been told, not speaking from expierence???? yet?

They have a better life than a lot of non law breakers ie. 3 meals a day, recreation levels of a very high standard need I go on? ...put them on bread and water and get them out to work ...then you will see a huge decrease in prison populations.. they have offended you know!!!! There is NO detterent thats why they are over crowded....... :rolleyes:
 
recreation levels of a high standard? I think you have been believing the tabloids stories of plasma tv's in each cell, and golf lessons too much :)
 
That's extremely simplistic, Merlin, and probably worng. In some jails, prisoners' lives are quite degrading.

Also, bear in mind, some innocent people are in there due to unsafe convictions and subjected to the same degradation.

I don't have the answer but I know I'd rather be on the outside than on the inside.
 
The prison service, like this country is rapidly going into meltdown.

I don't have all the answers but who ever is in charge of this mess should do the decent thing and resign.

Did I hear a rumour this week that crime figures have risen? That can't be true, surely - it must have been a misprint . <_<
