This is starting to become a real peeve with me. Today the Charlie Hall winner gets 51K and the winner of some Handicap Hurdle at Ascot gets just two grand less.

I understand and agree with contests like The Ebor, Hunt Cup and Cambridgeshire - our heritage handcaps - being worth a lot of money, they are an integral part of the sport. But they had a 6f H/C at Ascot on Festival of Racing weekend that was worth a lot more than a few of their Group races and it was just a run of the mill handicap as far as i could see - it was hardly the Stewards Cup.

I see today`s race is sponsored by a bookie - big surprise.

How about minimum and maximum prize values?

Grade 1 - Minimum 80k, Maximum uncapped
Grade 2 - Minimum 50k, Maximum 90k
Grade 3 - Minimum 30k, Maximum 70k (bar a few special races, the National, Hennessy etc).

Also stops the bookies sponsoring a mickey mouse hurdle race with 20+ runners for £100,000 when there's a Grade 1 chase with 5 runners worth £10k less on the same day etc.

The feature race will for me always be a Graded race (1 or 2) and anything else is a lesser event.
