Problems Negotiating Site

For the last couple of days I've had trouble negotiating the site.
I keep being prompted to download, and there should be no reason for this

It started with me getting these weird file names which I was promtped to downloadf - letters and numbers, which I was prompted to open, with accompanying warning messages

Now I still keep getting the 'download' menu, but the file name is always "index.php"
I have not opened any of these files.

Sometimes I can;t get into the site. More often, I can get into the site with no trouble, but even then almost as soon as I try to move around, I get this download nonsense, and I have to close the site. I can't seem to read more than one thread without having to close up again. It's really annoying.

I'm using Firefox on a mac iBook G4. I'm not having this problem with any other site.

Any advice? If you are on FF perhaps you could pm me there or answer on the thread over there, as I may not be able to read the reply here very easily!

Thanks for any help

I do, I can't remember if I tried that - will have another go.
It's been fine for the last half hour, odd innit??

This shouldn't be causing problems now?
Yesterday I was working alongside the hosts trying to upgrade to PHP 5.8.8 and the latest version of Apache on the servers, without them causing any problems to existing scripts.
It didn't work so downgraded again to a lower version of PHP that still worked with the various scripts that other customers were using.

While the upgrades and downgrades were in progress you would have got the download index.php prompts due to php not actually being installed on the server at the time. Nothing has been done today though so can't understand why there would be problems today.

Well it's still happening I'm afraid.... probably something now incompatible with macs? - not sure. It often is whent his kind of glitch happens........

It's most of the time, tho not all of the time.

I keep having to X out, then re-enter and can still only do one thread per go! - not insurmountable but pretty annoying. Just had to come in again to check this thread. Will now have check out I expect, to read another!

Can any i.t. guru advise a remedy?

Col I just removed a whole load of cookies inc the TH one as per your advice - has not made any difference. I can navigate to a certain extent by clicking on 'talking horses' rather than eg a section or thread title - but I'm still getting these index download prompts and having to X out to get into a differnet thread. I can click on 'last message' and read whichever thread has just been replied to - but then can't pass 'go'!!

I'm worried if I clear 'cache' that I'm going to create all sorts of problems in my other sites - am I??
Don't want to use a sledgehammer to crack a nut!
Not sure how to clear cache either...

Suddenly seems to be working OK, I'll hope it carries on like that!
Maybe it took a while for the new cookie to bed in? LOL

PS I spoke too soon - I can navigate within this section, but same message came up when trying to get into the racing section. Arrgghh. will now log out again...

PPS and now it's getting even weirder, as I can navigate freely round the Chitchit section, but in General Racing I can only read the last thread which has been replied to, by clicking on 'last reply' - and I can't get into any other thread no matter how I try to access them...

I'm still having this problem so now I'm negotiating by 'previous screen'-ing! - and waiting on the menu page till someone posts to a new thread, then I can click on that and get in.... It's very mysterious!

I'm now using Safari and everything *is* working fine, so clearly whatever gremlin got in did so while I was using Firefox the day Cal was fiddling with the gubbins, er scripts

Well at least I can read the board, tho it will be annoying not to be able to have it open while on eg Betfair during racing on a busy day... Betfair on Safari is a nightmare :dork:

I suspect that you just need to completely empty your cache in Firefox (and that you have it at a strange setting that has trapped whatever Col did yesterday).
