Punchestown 2012

I read that Mullins was thinking of running her in another race because of the amount of horses he has for this?

Where though? He's not going to take on Hurricane Fly with her and she is the reigning champ in this race. Plus i'm pretty sure this has been her target all year and as its only her second run you would imagine he'd stick to that plan.

The only other option is the French Champion Hurdle, which would probably suit and IIRC she has form at the course.

Fair point. They did mention the French Champion Hurdle, but it wasn't a case of not running at Punchestown, it was possible she'd run in both.

She has decent course form there Aragorn - she was third to Grivette and Hurricane Fly in June of her 4yo year and has run well in the 2m 5 1/2f Prix La Barka (a French Champion Hurdle trial) run on Grand Steeplechase Day (22nd May this year IIRC).

Positive for her French Champion Hurdle chances are that the likely favourite will be attempting to double up after running in the Grand Steeplechase and that the runner-up in the top French staying hurdle of the Autumn is now trained in the UK and won't be running in it. Negative is it's over further than she's ever run before.

It is but Thousand Stars renewal was a 2m 2f dawdle followed by a 7f sprint!! Bit like the mares hurdle this year and she handled that alright!!

She could feasibly run in both as they're normally a good 6 weeks apart are they not?

I think that the French Champion Hurdle is around the 10th June this year - it's earlier than normal IIRC as is the Grand Steeplechase.

Still a decent gap between the two though.

Be nice to see the British horses in the Gold Cup all run. Would be very interested in Captain Chris back on this track.

Riverside Theatre is an interesting contender in the Gold Cup alright. Of further interest is that Gigginstown have First Lieutenant entered but not SDC. The potential star is getting the cotton wool treatment

SDC runs in the growise grade 1 novice chase the opening day so the two giggenstown runners dont have to face each other

they have good chance of bagging both races so its an understandable decision
