Interesting bumper at Market Rasen - 3:45 - with Queen’s Gamble looking to cement her Champion Bumper entry and chances. She’s amongst the favourites atm and the best of the Brits.

She’s odds on here, of course, and should win convincingly, but it is a sharper track than she’s experienced before and she is giving weight all round. There’s also a couple of potential decent ones running. Jonjo paid out £150,000 for Mellificent who won well on her debut with £90,000+ jobs Dysart Enos and Take No Chances running similarly well, too.

Should be an informative contest.

Inside three furlongs out - when the winner was around 8 lengths last - Queen’s Gamble looked for all the world as if she was coming to win her race with ease, but she hadn’t catered for the rocketing finish of Dysart Enos who took her near the death. It wasn’t as if QG didn’t try to repel borders either, she did but to no avail. Was still four lengths in front of Take No Chances in third , so not as if she collapsed. The other expected contender - Mellificent - had drifted markedly in the betting and didn’t feature despite tracking the leaders for much of the way (how do bookies know these things)

On this showing QG is not going to feature in the Champion Bumper - she’s slipped to 20/1 now and Dysart Enos has replaced her as the Brit flag waver albeit at 12/1 (don’t think he’s entered?). Sherwood said he had a plan B which is Aintree and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see her there.
