There are canes fixed to a fence around our patio and recently I have heard a regular scratching sound. At first I thought it was a mouse underneath gnawing away at the wood but this afternoon I saw the culprit.

A wasp was scraping its rear end (stinger end) on the cane it was clinging to.

Did this for perhaps 5 mins and returned an hour later to do do the same.

Anyone know why the wasp was doing this?

Whilst we have removed a few nests from 'The Barn' quite easily, my neighbour has a sloping roof extension so might make reaching the nest near impossible.
