Thought she deserved a thread of her own.

What a mare. What a training performance. What a ride.

Smashing.

Campaigned differently, she could have been an all time legend.

Still immensely good and a record holder.

Fair play to the owners

Willie saying his vet told him how to campaign her six years ago and he's just followed the same routine after her first success

Don't mean to poop on her parade but can anyone name a half decent horse she has beaten in her 6 wins? A sadly wasted career for me.

From our preview chat

[09-03, 21:37] chroniclandlord Mullins wins, any chinks in Quevega, Glens Melody is the next best.

I get an odd one right

They've made history and it's a great training performance but at what cost?

I have to say that's two years in a row now the great mare has dug Ruby out of a hole.

On all known form she should be blowing that opposition away but she has now struggled twice. Ruby has been over-confident on her.

Or maybe she isn't quite race fit first time up at her age.

But it is great to have lived through the legendary run!

had a feeling the quicker ground was going to do for her and it nearly did. fantastic the way she's dug in the last 2 years.

what price a 7th?

I think 1 world hurdle beating Big Bucks would have been a greater achievement. Unfortunately the watering down of the festival has led to scenarios where a horse like Quevega can avoid proper races and proper horses.

I don't think he was hugely over-confident, he was niggling away a good way out. I think she was outpaced on ground that would be as quick as she wants over a distance which would be her absolute minimum trip these days.

As far as what she has beaten, I agree the Mares' Race is a soft option and while I don't disagree with the general concept of mares-only races to encourage NH-bred fillies to be put in training, I don't think it has a place at the Festival. It's still a mighty achievement to bring any horse back to the same race to win it six times though, especially when that involves travelling outside her own country. And to be scrupulously fair, it's not her fault that Solwhit was withdrawn from the Punchestown race last year or we would have seen her take on the reigning World Hurdler.

On a line through Voler la vedette, Quevega was not far behind Big Bucks'. Mullins is chucking Annie Power straight in to the deep end at Cheltenham, we should take the hint.

Totally agree with Cruella. Moreover, last year she stumbled at the top of the hill just as Ruby was making his forward move. If that hadn't have happened she'd have sailed down the hill and sprinted away from them up the other side.
