Husband to his wife " put your coat on love I'm going out"
Wife " why, am I going with you " ?
Husband - "no I'm turning the heating off"

Don't know if that is the case Ian, it came to mind when this evening my wife said she was cold and could she put the heating on, so I as a loving hubby agreed but reminded her that NPower had raised their prices two days ago.

not asking exactly, after she has put her fleece on and then her woolly hat, I ask her if she is cold then, all we have to do is come to some agreement how long the heating should go on for.

All civil and democratic here in Yorkshire ;)

My heating has just been put back on the timer :( :( . Half and hour in the mornings and half an hour in the evenings, between 5.30 and 6 both times.

It is usually our ladies who feel the cold first which I find odd as they are supposed have more natural fat than us.
My lady can be very unreasonable at times, instead of asking for the heating she puts more clothes on and then when I suggest that she puts her Jane Fonda workout tape on instead, she flies off the handle. :D

:o  fur coat (imitation of course?? :P in case the animal lovers might want to respond) must be top of list for an xmas pressie!! will cut down on your heating bill?221bar.................. :D

My heating is on all year round bar the very height of the summer. I like to be very lightly dressed indoors all year round. Light cotton tee shirt, trousers and socks. I like to keep the ambient temperature around 24ºC downstairs and 18-20ºC upstairs.

As for a variation on the original joke...

Husband to wife: Heyy, I've just won the lottery jackpot. Pack the bags!
Wife: Greeat!! Where are we going?
Hubbie: I'm staying, you're leaving!

It doesn't seem that expensive. Certainly not for the comfort levels.

On the advice of our gas engineer, I set all the thermostats at maximum ("waste of money") and turned down the output at the boiler till we got the desired ambient temperature downstairs. Then I turned down/off the thermostats in the rooms upstairs till I got the temperatures right there too. More than halved our gas bills.

Honest.

(BTW, our house is a timber framed job with very high spec insulating materials.)
