With five flat meetings it’s a bit of a surprise that I’ve only got two trackers popping up. Plenty of eye catching action, though, so others of interest will doubtless put in an appearance.

Outgun 4:20 Newmarket - repeatably denied a clear run last time and could only get going inside the final furlong to finish third. Probably wouldn’t have caught the winner, but would have been much closer. Well fancied today and now 6/4 from 5/2 overnight.

Navy Jack 4:05 Newbury - ran a good second to Arabian Crown at Sandown last time in what was considered to be a strong race. Just moved into 5/2 favourite today (from 11/4 overnight). Something can always jump out of the woodwork in these 2yo races, but it’ll need to be pretty good to collar Navy Jack, I think.

Godolphin and Appleby are not the first names that spring to mind if thinking about possible plots, but they have a debut handicap, down in class, up in distance runner today in Imperial Emperor -5:15 Newbury - and 4/1 is a chance worth taking, although the Charlton runner looks a good favourite.

Will I be able to resist dear old Summerghand in the big one at Ripon? 5/1 is skinny, but……..

Doesn’t look like they’ve given up on Arrest 1:50 Newbury and although it will be no surprise if he romps in, I think it’ll be an interested watch for me.

Summerghand was trying today wasnt it BJ.

Definitely, my notes on him read “ignore when Tudhope isn’t aboard”. Had a cover bet in the end so no damage done.

Nothing there from Navy Jack, Buick was hard at work before the others had got started and the form horse (ratings) won it with ease despite drifting pretty heavily from overnight favourite.

Not sure what happened to Outgun, seemed to take a false step half a furlong out, but I’ll need to watch again. Don’t think it made any difference though.

No, it was a check because of interference, surprised the stewards didn’t make more of it since was described as “seriously checked” by the Racing Post.

An enquiry was held to consider interference inside the final furlong involving the winner, BARROLA, ridden by Adam Farragher, OUTGUN placed second, ridden by James Doyle and BLUE UNIVERSE (IRE), placed third, ridden by Franny Norton. Farragher was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he failed to take corrective measures to prevent his mount from continuing to shift left-handed, causing Doyle to be moved off his intended line and take a check, whilst Norton, on his inside took a precautionary check.

And so to the plot horse . Put in the right place, looked promising, but didn’stay the extra distance.

Arrest won nicely, typical since he’s the one I didn’t back  Hey, ho, not the finest of days.
