Rachel Blackmore has just announced her retirement after her phenomenal career where she really did make the most impact of any woman in this industry. She will be missed and I wish her every happiness in the future.

For purely selfish reasons I'm sorry to be hearing this news, I will miss her. But of course I am also pleased for her. She has been a top class jockey and deserves a happy retirement.

Fabulous rider. Seems like a really lovely person too. With Nina, Rachel etc. it is totally normal now for ladies to be riding the best horses at the best meetings if they are good enough. Racing (with all its negative publicity) has been a leader in this.

Sad news - outstanding jockey - must have been quite a sudden decision she was declared for 2 for H de B on Wed only this morning .

Good she went out on a winner riding the other jockeys to sleep on Saturday .

She was on Brendan O'Connor Show yesterday playing her five favourite records /or those that meant most to her.
She has just published a children's book The Grand National , possibly an indication that the modified course is child's play compared to when it was a proper race.
She had no hesitation reminding her host of the Thursday evening dance lessons of her childhood; imagine she will be harrowing what Nina and Davy ploughed on "Dancing With The Stars ".
For a lady whose career was going nowhere for ten years she really , really turned it around.
Very few jockeys in the history can boast a flat, hurdles and chase win in a 24 hour period as Rachel can.
Circumstance of Gigginstown not having a retained rider coupled with other rumoured O'Leary behaviour towards jockeys made all the difference.
Hats off to Rachel for persevering and Shark for encouraging her to.
She has been the role model for all this century , and managed a smile through it all.
I hope every door opens for her , and when she has the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope she will dance.
Thanks for everything.

Yes, great ambassador

CV of races any jockey would relish

As myself and Ed commented one day trackside "fine looking lady too"

Out in one piece - Well done on everything

Ah on a personal note, I am gutted and quite surprised she is retiring, such a great jockey and has done SO much for the sport and for raising the female awareness within racing.

She's had an awesome career and good to see her get out in 1 piece.

I assume you are referring to the way that her great talent will be celebrated ? I will really miss seeing her ride . Those two rides for her double at Cheltenham this year were outstanding.

She has transcended the sport.

At the weekend there I ended up staying with relatives not far from Leopardstown. They'd lived there for 50 years but seemed surprised when I told them tere was a racecourse nearby. They knew of the ones at Naas and the Curragh and they may even have mentioned Navan at one point but Leopardstown seemed to surprise them.

However, they knew all about Rachael Blackmore and Willie Mullins. That's when you know they are 'greats'.
