Came across this on my travels...makes very interesting reading...it is an analysis (quite scientific!) of the impact of synthetic tracks on American racing and the problems they have encountered due to temperature extremes as well as faulty installation.

The gist of the special is that the much vaunted benefit of reducing horse injuries and deaths is oversold. Interesting comments about injuries now moving from the bottom of the legs to up around the upper body.
