Hello there,

I answered the question to the Racing Posts latest competition regarding Tom Dascombe and his Royal Ascot winner in an attempt to win a day at Manor House.

Yesterday I received a 3rd party email from a Manor House Syndicate offering me to join at a cost of £500.

I'm not happy with my email adress being thrown around willy nilly by the Racing Post, is there not any confidentiality clause?

Anyone else have the same problem? it may just be a coincidence considering I've been browsing the internet for ownership lately - so let me know!

It depends what you opted into/out of and what is in the small print. Usually these type of competitions are purely an exercise in increasing the size of their marketing database.

Afraid Aragorn's right, Bruce. Pretty much every comp you enter, from a race card promo to win a hamper, bottla Bolly, day at a spa, to one via newspaper or online, etc., sees all the entrants' details added to the Sales & Marketing databases of the organ of promotion as well as the actual promoter. If you add an email, you'll get an email promo, if you just put your address, it'll be by post.

Technically you need to opt in though to receive communications so it depends on the small print. I would assume that entering the comp is deemed as "opting in" in the t&C's - Not that I have looked.

So you enter a competition to attend a training establishment which specialises in syndicated ownership, but complain when you are asked if you want to get involved in a syndicate. What were you expecting when you got there?
